Marie must be the MN. Our original plan was Maya Marie, but a gal can play around with names for a few more months, can't she? ;-)

What do you think? Is it pretty and unique, or does it bring up thoughts of Marie Callender's?

(BTW, the last name begins with a hard "G".)

I love it! I just heard the name recently and like it a lot, which says a lot as I am much more into classic names. I do like its modern feel.

I LOVE Calla - it is a beautiful name! I would chose Calla over Maya. The reason why I like Calla is that it is similar to Lily - i.e. Calla Lilly, but not as popular and overused. I would not just toss this lovely name around, but I would seriously consider it!

Everyone obsesses over middle names when in reality, I have no idea the middle names of most of the people I know outside family and close friends. If Calla goes well with your last name, it's not a bad choice. I know that Callie, Callan etc were popular in the early nineties. Calla by itself doesn't really carry. (Imagine having to call for your little girl across the house or across the yard. It's kind of hard to shout.) My son is "Alan" and I find his name doesn't carry well, either. The next baby I want to name using a long vowel sound.

Reminds me of Kalamazoo ... city in Michigan.

Calla is beautiful though so I can see why you love it.

What about Tessa?

I like it - unique and flower names are in right now. The only problem I might see is pronunciation - CAH-la or Calla (short a like 'gal')?

AJ, enjoying life with C.

Love it! Much prefer it to Maya Marie. And I didn't think of the restaurant at all.

I like it! I also like Maya. But if you still have a few months to go I guess you'll be asking about several more names coming up!!! Lol!

Thank you all for the feedback!

I don't think I would pick Tessa, though I do see how it goes well with Marie.

And the point of obsessing over the middle name is a good point, indeed. But... on the other hand, I do think it's important that the fn and mn "go" together. Calla would go OK w/ our last name; Maya actually goes better.

We would pronounce it like the Calla in calla lily (short "a", like in "cat"). That is actually where I got the name. *sigh* Sometimes I wish our surname was Smith or Jones. Names seem to go better with those types of surnames. Ours is a Polish name, not unusual at all in Chicago - eh, not so much here in Oklahoma...
