I think it's unique, and unique in the world of names is a very good thing. But I wouldn't select it for a child of mine. Very sci-fi sounding.

In addition to Dork, it also reminds me of Doric, the simple type of Roman columns. The Massachusetts State House has Doric columns inside and the women who give the tours are called "Doric Dames." I understand why they are called that, but it doesn't make it any less funny.

I like the "-rek" at the end of the name, but unfortunately, it reminds me too much of that brand of vacuum cleaners, Oreck, for me to really like it. I can't help but hear Rod Roddy from The Price is Right going on and on about the fabulous features of a brand-new Oreck vaccuum cleaner!

I think that as a name, I like Derek better.

You're all actually spelling it wrong. It's Dorcas and it's Greek not Latin. It means gracefull, gazelle, or gazelle like. My MIL's best friends name is Dorcas. She's actually quite beautifull, but that's just my association with the name.

Like the other posters have said, it's a little too close to "Dork" for comfort... but I do like the name DEREK.

Good luck to you!

Well, I do think Dork when I see this name. I also think it looks like Derek misspelled.

btw ... Melissa I love the pictures in your signature. You and your family are quite attractive. (Hope that doesn't sound weird or creepy. LOL). Good to be able to put a face to your posts.
