Wondering what you think of the name Elle for a girl? I'm finally having my first girl after 3 boys and you'd think I'd have the name picked already, but I'm still not sure.

Anyway, Elle would be her given name (nn Ellie).

Thanks,
K

Elle makes me think of the magazine, or "she" in French, or Elle Woods (in Legally Blond). It's not horrible, but I prefer Ella or some other longer version.

I love the name, and considered it for our daughter, however, I don't feel there are a lot of surnames that sound good with it. Hopefully yours does!

Elle can be short for Ellery, if you are looking for longer names for which Elle can be a nickname. I know Ellery is not everyone's cup of tea, but I thought I'd throw it out there as an option.

I love the name Elle, i love the way it sounds and i love the way its read. I've considered it for me, but i have a latin background and two ll's are prounounced like Ye. So, it sorta ruins it for me. I think its sophisticated and strong but sweet. Good luck!

Elle/Ellie/Ella are just way too common right now for my taste. How about Gabrielle nn Elle or Ellie?

Hmmm...good suggestions. I have thought about Elle for a long time and it's a shame that it supposedly has become so popular although fortunately I can say that I don't know a single person who has named their daughter/baby Elle, Ella, or Ellie. I only know one person who has a cat named Ellie. So, that's atleast in my favor. Ellery is a good suggestion.

Thanks all for the input.

My daughter is named Ellington (my maiden name), and we ALWAYS call her 'Ellie'. I LOVE it! (Granted, she'll probably be embarrassed on the first day of school when they call her by her birth name, but I'm sure she'll get over that pretty quickly. LOL!)
