What do you think of Leo?
| Fri, 02-23-2007 - 9:53am |
We are not sharing our baby boy's name with family before, but I need an opinion- what do people think of Leo (not short for anything, just as the name)? We live in South Dakota and I want to make sure if we move to the coasts its not too "out there"...And how do these sound (all family names)
Leo Allen
Leo Dexter
Leo Frederick
Leo Matthew
Leo Wuichet
Thanks so much for your opinions!

If it helps, I live in PA and think Leo is wonderful, spunky, and fitting with the trends without being trendy itself (along the same lines as Benjamin/Ben, Samuel/Sam, etc.). I would think it was a nn for something, though I wouldn't naturally assume which Leo- name that might be (Leopold is probably my favorite, so I'd secretly be hoping for that LOL, but it could just as easily be Leonard, Leonardo, Leonzio or even Leander).
I'm not saying you have to use a more formal form, just my first impression since that's what you were asking about. I'll admit, I do prefer giving the child more options, but that's just me. There are plenty of boys named simply Max, Jack, Ben, Sam, Nate, etc. without them being short for anything, so "just Leo" would work for most. ;)
Of the combos listed, Leo Frederick probably sounds the best as far as style and flow are concerned, but I'm also quite drawn to Leo Dexter. Just a really intriguing, spunky combo overall, KWIM?

I'm in agreement, I really like the name Leo! In fact, if we didn't already have a Levi, you inspired me to consider this should we have another boy. I don't think it has to be a nn for a longer name. We have a son that we call Ike and I wish we would have just named him Ike (instead of Isaac). We named his Isaac because we thought it seemed odd to just name him Ike, but he has ALWAYS been called "Ike" and now Isaac just sounds wrong to me when I hear it because we n.e.v.e.r. call him that.
I like Leo Frederick best of all.

I love Leo, both on its own and as a nn. It's familiar without being too common, and I don't think anyone would consider it to be too out there regardless of where you end up living. From your list, I love Leo Dexter and Leo Frederick.
Leo's a great choice. :)
LOOOOOVE it! So classy, spunky, and handsome. It would be #1 on my list if I could find a longer name that I like, using Leo as a nn. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable using it as a full name, not sure why. It definitely works though, love it!

Oops, forgot to comment on mn's:
Leo Allen- Nice, good flow
Leo Dexter- PERFECT! Dexter is adorable, I *love* this combo
Leo Frederick- see Leo Allen, same idea
Leo Matthew- nice, but soo common
Leo Wuichet- not sure how to pronounce this
Leo Allen and Leo Frederick are nice, strong names, and Leo Dexter is just adorable and soo spunky.
Love that you're using family names.
