What do you think of this name?

When my family was traveling in Finland in the early 80's my sister and I became friends with a girl our age named Annalena. I am not 100% sure of the spelling... she pronounced it Ah-nah-lay-nah. I always loved that name. Her nickname was Ansku (which I am not that fond of), but here I could see great nicknames of Anna or Lainie.

I can't find this name in ANY book or database. What do you all think of it? Would you spell it Annalena or Annaleina or Annalayna?

We will be using Maurine as the middle name after my grandmother. Is Annalena Maurine Gensel too long of a name??

I appreciate any input.

Thanks!
Lisa

I love it! Especially pronounced anna-layna! I do not think the name is too long myself. I guess wait to see what others on the board will say! But as for me, I think its perfect!

I think it is a very pretty name. It has a good story with it as well. I like the first spelling you used.

Yeah, I think it is really pretty and nobody's gonna say "Heh?" when you tell them her name :) I'm a huge fan of Anna names so I really like it.

I agree - unique name, but conventional enough that the child wont go through life trying to explain her name to people.

I found the name in "A World of Baby Names" by Teresa Norman. It's in the "Scandinavian Names" section, which says:

ANNALINA. Combination name composed of Anna (gracious, full of grace) and the Latinate second element -lina. See ANNA. (ah-na-LEE-nah).

I think it's really sweet.

Really nice name! I've never heard it before but I really like it. The spelling Annalena looks best to me but Annalayna may be more clear on the pronunciation. Analaina too maybe?

I think its a beautiful name. I would spell it Annalayna or Annaleina. When I first saw the name spelt Annalena, I thought it had a long "e"- Anna-Leigh-na, which I think is beautiful as well. Lainie is a beautiful nn.
