What do you think of this name?

Dh and I are expecting #3 and he thinks it's another girl. Our first two daughters have part of their names honoring my family. This baby will be named in honor of his family, mn WILL be Ruth - my MIL passed away this past summer and that was her name. The first name we chose is also in honor of his family - great grandmother I believe.

I'm just wondering how it sounds and if it chimes nicely with our other dd's.

The name we are chosing is:

~*Cordelia Ruth - nn Cordy or Delia (Even though I am NOT a nn person)

dd's are:

Ashlyn Arlene (nn Ash, Bean, Peanut - ok there's nn's lol)
Hannah Noelle (nn Nana, Nanners, Gus)

I'm not after "unusual" names - more on the traditional (somewhat) line.

Thanks,

Elise

I like traditional names, too, but Cordelia paired with Ruth screams OLD LADY. But I suppose you could call her Dee Dee

Cordelia Ruth is a lovely name and certainly doesn't scream old lady to me. I do agree that it might not mesh well with Ashlyn and Hannah - however, I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Growing up I always thought MY name screamed old lady - Elise Faye. But as I got older I just realized it was just more unique than the others around at the time and I am hoping the same with this baby, if we have another girl.

Ashlyn actually hates her name (we were going to name her the Irish way -Aislin-, but worried about the mispronounciation) and wants to be called Ashley (nms). Hannah, well, she's only 15 months old, she loves everything.

Signing with my "old-lady/unique name"

Elise Faye :)

I think that is a beautiful name and using Delia as a nickname would make it a bit more trendy to match the other girls names (if you are worried about that). I don't think it sounds too old (even Ruth isn't that old).

I love it, but I really like Delia as a nn much more than Cordy (sounds like Gordy, or the dog a Corgi) or Dee Dee. Delia is lovely.

I love it. I think it sounds more sophisticated than old lady. As far as "going" with the other girls' names, sure, sounds fine. To be honest, I don't even understand why this matters. Each kid is an individual...not a matched set.

Of course, the true test of a name is, can you yell it properly when she's being bad? lol

ROFL! That is so true. I don't even know why I asked if it "sounded well" with our other girls' names. It's all comes down to if you can yell it right or say first and middle together when upset. LOL!

No, seriously, dh and I actually picked these names together - right away, before even pg and this was THE name that he wants for our next little girl. And it is to honor his mother, who was just the sweetest lady. We saw her a hour before she had her heart attack at our dd's school for the "End of the Year Picnic" - our baby was only 6 months when she passed away, and I really wish we would have had more time with her. She taught our oldest so much, her name was Ruthmarie, so Ruth will be our next girls mn.

Ok enough rambling. I know it may sound a bit "old lady-ish"...but I grew up with Elise in the 80's and it was extremely uncommon to hear that name - not so much anymore, more and more little girls have that name, and different spellings too.

The nn "Cordy" came from the show (that ended recently) Angel. His friend/coworker's name was Cordelia and her nn was Cordy. I guess the nn will just come naturally when we look at her and shee her personality.

I think Cordelia Ruth sounds nice, it's unique. But the nn Cordy I don't know about that, it just sound like something you wouldn't call a girl but then again your other daughter's nn is Gus, so I'm sure it will be fine. Now that I think about it, it's kinda cute.
