I am loving the name Alora right now. DH is just not so sure about it. Maybe because he's never heard it before. Even though it is different, I think it sounds nice. What are your thoughts?

It's a pretty name but here are some considerations: it sounds exactly like how my Brazilian in-laws say "Hello", it's the name of a drug I believe used for fertility treatments, and is also a town in Spain.

That's my honest opinion but I also love the way it sounds and if it still works for you I hope your DH comes to love it, too.

There's a town and gorge in Southwestern Ontario called Elora, so that's all it reminds me of. I think it does sound pretty though. I couldn't find it in any of my books or Behind the Name, where is the name from?

It the name of the baby in the movie "Willow". I'm not sure if they spelled it Alora or Elora.

Love it! There's a baby on the March 07 Muffins Playgroup named Alora, and I've always thought it's gorgeous.

I've never heard "Alora" but there is a student at my school (I'm a teacher) named "Allura". Both names sound quite pretty. I think I prefer "Allura" slightly though.

I've been seeing this name on all sorts of message boards lately and I think the same thing every time I see it. It sounds like 'alluring' to me, which is NOT an image I'd like to associate with my daughter. Maybe with the "e" and pronounced more like eh-lora, it's okay.

Siggy by the AMAZING Alicia at Momsquawk.com! Thanks!

Allora (with two Ls) is a word in Italian. Nothing bad, though, I can't remember, it's kind of one of those conversational words like "now" or "so" - I haven't taken Italian since high school though. I'm sure you can look it up.

Alora sounds pretty, I'd worry that everyone would hear the name and say, "Laura?"

No offense to the PP who said she liked "Allura" but that totally sounds like a stripper or Playboy bunny name to me!! Reminds me of the word allure/alluring. Please don't name your daughter that unless you want to see her dancing with a pole one day.
