I can't decide if I like the name Ansley for a little girl. What are your thoughts?

I personally don't care for it - although it's by far not among the worst names - I've only ever heard it on this board, don't know any

Ansley is NOT a form of Ainsley (and it's definitely not a misspelling!). It's a separate -- less popular -- that just happens to be similar.

I love it, but then, I live in Atlanta, where the Ansley family was/is very prominent and many things are named for them. In fact, that name Ansley may be quite uncommon outside of Georgia but it's pretty popular here.

In 2004 there were only 415 Ansleys born across the country making it #653 on the national list, but 189 (nearly HALF) of those girls were born in Georgia, making it the #44 name in the state. That's a HUGE discrepancy. So if you live in GA and are looking for something truly unique, you may want to keep looking. If you live outside of GA, the name is actually even LESS popular than it seems because there are only 226 Ansley spread over the remaining 49 states. (If you discoount the GA Ansleys, the name would not even rank in the top 1000.)

When I hear this name on an Ansley who lives outside of Georgia, I always wonder if her parents have a Georgia connection. (When I was in school at the University of North Carolina, I met a young Ansley whose parents were from Atlanta.) It's a great way to honor Georgia roots, but it's subtle enough that only those of us from Atlanta are likely to even wonder about the connection.
