Just curious what people think of the name Selwen for a girl. Basically what kind of image does it bring to mind? TIA

Don't like it. Reminds me of a dorky guy! Sorry.

Hmm. I'm usually open to this kind of name (was breifly considering Merwen (mairwen), but sounded too mermaidy), and I'm trying to like it... but I can't.

On the one hand, it sounds ALMOST exotic. But then, the lasting impression I get is kind of nerdy. SORRY!

I really like -wen endings, but this one isn't my style. Maybe it will grow on me?

How about Bronwen? I've always liked that name...

It makes me think of wizards and elves for some reason. Kind of mystical.

I only know of Selwyn as a male name. I know sometimes an en shows it's a feminine name (not always, but sometimes), but I couldn't find Selwen.

Reminds me of the street, Selwyn, that I drive down practically every day.

Don't like it. When I say it aloud, I feel as though I sound like Elmer Fudd a little.

Sorry.

I'm sorry, my initial thought is that I really dislike it. It looks a little made up to me...kind of like a variation of Arwen, which I don't think is a real name, but a literary name.

It also reminds me of, and you're probably not going to like these associations either, but I can't help it, this is what comes to mind:

saran wrap, or even a brand of tin foil....

a sea hag or Medusa-like creature....

*cringing* I'm so sorry, but that's what came to mind.

You probably have enough feedback to make up your mind, but I'll throw mine in anyway!

Once I stop to say the name, it doesn't sound too bad, but when I first saw it, the

s-e-w-e-n made me think at first glance of sewer. Selwyn, because of the "y" doesn't have the same association for me.

Best of luck!

Sorry, I am afraid I don't like it either. The letters sound all wrong when I say it. A bit swampy too. Do you have any alternatives? You have to think about how the child would feel growing up with a name like that.

Hope all of these opinions have helped.
