What if she's a tomboy?

I really like the name Lorelei Giselle, but I realize it's kind of a "frilly" name (especially when you add on Giselle to it). I have this fear that my daughter is going to grow up, and the name is totally not going to fit her. I really love the name, but what if she's not a "girly-girl" and she ends up being a tomboy. I suppose she could always go by Lori or Lora. What do you think? Should this even be a concern?

Wouldn't really concern me in this situation, because as you mentioned she could always go with a less "frilly" nn (besides the ones you mentioned, she could go by Rory, which isn't overly-feminine at all, being unisex). The beauty of having a few nn options. ;)

I think Lorelei is a name that could easily be adapted to a basketball-playing tomboy! Lori or Lore would work perfectly well. I do think Giselle is a little over the top (supermodel name and seems a lot to live up to) and I wouldn't choose it but if you love it, do it.

I don't think this should be a concern...none of us really have a clue what our kids' personalities will be when we name them. I know a serious tomboy names Laura, and her name is really irrelevant. If you love the nmae, go with it! I personally really like your choice.

I think it's fine. I admit that I do tend to think about that aspect a lot when naming and prefer names for girls that have a unisex middle name or a fn or mn with unisex nns. But really, I know TONS of tomboys with girly names. If she winds up being a tomboy, she'll either make Lorelei/Lore/Lori work for her or she'll wind up with some random nickname that works just fine. I wouldn't worry about it. And I think Lorelei Giselle is a beautiful name. I don't think about the supermodel at all. I have a good friend named Giselle who is gorgeous, but also a total tomboy. It works perfectly on her.

I wouldn't worry about it. The Lorelei I knew in college actually went by Lori all the time, and she was mostly girly (but I think it would have worked if she'd been a tomboy, too). There's not much you can do about what she becomes -- whether you give her a frilly or more unisex name. She'll figure it out. :-)

I don't think it should be a concern. Its a beautiful name and if its too "frilly" for her, she can go by Lor. Its a lovely name and I don't think this should bother you AT ALL.

I wouldn't fret over something like that. You'll make yourself dizzy! So what if she does turn into a tomboy? There'll always be SOMETHING to call her. You can't worry about that NOW!!!
