There are thousands of names I'd never use for one reason or another. Any name I consider repellant is obviously out, like Adolph or Aryan. Names with unpleasant associations (Reagan/Regan, Stone), aren't my style (Jaiden, Destiny), or I simply dislike (Nathan, Mia) would also never be considered.
There are some names I really love, such as Kermit, Alice, Polly, and Theodore, that I would probably never use because they are too close to names already used by friends or family or because popular culture references would make the name difficult to live with.
Anything trendy or misspelt, names used by a best friend or sibling, names with overt pop culture associations, names of ppl I really don't like and probably anything in the top 25 or so for my child's generation.
Any ethnic name that the child doesn't take part (Hitomi, Mohammad), a really out of date name (Agnes, Bertha), a name that has negative associations (Adolph, Hannibal), and any name that is top 50 on the charts for the year before (Aidan, Ava).
Katie...I know at least a dozen girls with that name and it just seems like a name thats ok for little ones, but they have to grow out of it eventually. Same with Kaylie. Also anything with "Ash", "-ianna", or "-ailie" in it. Mackenzie, Madison, Madeline as well. Any last names, such as Parker, Hunter, Collier, McKenna, Cooper, etc. As for strictly boys names, I would never name my son Kevin. And Max reminds me of a dog's name. For a good while there the trend of naming boys "Dante" was popular among dads. Dante? I can't picture a six year old red head who eats paste going by Dante. Also Matteo, Mattias, and Kaine. My husband wanted to name our son Kaine. And then I told him to shut up. Not that I hate everyone else's kids names, I just would never give these names to my kid. As you can tell my search for a name has been difficult.
I worked at a daycare for almost 3 years and I swore that I would never name my children... Tyler, Noah, Vincent, Timmy.... those names bring back some bad memories. I think I'm starting to twitch already! haha.
