I have recently found out that We're having a baby. The father "knows" it's a boy and by all signs he's probably right. (God help us all.) He wants to name the baby and I was fine with it...until I heard the name he picked "Saint Dameon". I need some really good arguements on this one guys. Any help would be appreciated.

You don't need a really good argument. You just need to say no. This is ridiculous. As the mother, you have EVERY RIGHT to veto this option. I would not even discuss it. Just say no, and ask him to come up with some new ideas.

well depending on how religious you both are you can say you feel sacreligious (sp?) putting saint in your sons name, but like someone else said he's your son too and have the right to veto something you -really- hate. maybe Dameon with a middle name you like?

I actually like Damian (prefer this spelling), but there's no way I'd actually make his first name "Saint" ... assuming I read your post correctly. That's just a bit too much. For arguement's sake, I'd tell him that Saint Damian/Damien/Dameon (various saints, various spellings) was simply Damian until he was canonized. Saint is generally not an actual part of a person's name, know what I mean? It's just a little silly and presumptuous, in my opinion. I mean really, most mischievous little boys are anything but saints.

For what it's worth, even if you already told him he could name the baby, that doesn't mean he should be able to choose any name you truly hate. You should have veto power. He gets to come up with the names, but nothing you dislike that much should become the name of your child without you even getting a say in the matter.

Kelli and Annie are completly right! This is your baby too you deserve a say in the name no matter what. Damian has never been a favorite of mine eventhough my DF loves it. I always think of the move The Omen where the devils son is named Damian. I would never think of naming my son that. Eventhough I am fully aware of who Saint Damian is, most people don't. Most people associate it with the satans son. So I say thats enough reason to veto!

I agree with PP about The Omen being the first thing that comes to mind for a majority of people... is that what DH is going for?

another PP said that Saint isn't used as part of a name. To me, it would be like naming your son "Mister Dameon" or a daughter "Miss ____"... it just doesn't make sense!

Could DH maybe come up with his top 5 or 3 names - then you could both work on picking one from that list?

Hope that helps!

just wanted to add, "Saint" is common with hispanic origins, know a Dominican Republic lady named Santa Isobel, she goes by Isobel.
