What names do you love, but...

aren't brave enough to use?
Maybe it's just DH and me, but we have a couple names we really love, but aren't brave enough to face our family and friends with so we will probably never use them. For us, it's Dermot and Dexter.
We seem to be more outgoing in our girl choices. Currently we're loving Tallula and know my family will hate it, but we just don't care!
So, what are your secret names?

must be ALOT of moms have secret favs,LOL. I just posted a very similar post within minutes of not seeing your's here first,LOL.
I have mixed feelings about this.
When I had my son, I finally weeded out all my secret favs, in the premise that it is cruel to actually name a child anything that might carry baggage with it. It is hard enough to get through life without the extra ridicule.
I caved in to conform to the Mainstream of naming-Thought , or prevailing thought at that time.
Oh, and I was LOT younger then, too.Younger moms tend to go more Mainstream in their picks. It's a peer-group thing I think now.
Now? If I were to have a child, I would be Braver in my choices; go more with what I feel than what I would have back then. However, I STILL think, when it comes down to it, it should be more of what a kid can live with, than Mom's secret whims. The better of the child, than the awesome moniker. It's THEIR name, after all.
I would LIKE to name a son "Remember Freedom" and have him be born on the 4th of July.
Or, a daughter born on Valentine's Day, and call her "Dominique Venus".
Or, she be born on December 25th, and call her,"Mistletoe Carol".LOL.
We fell in love w/ the name Lake for our 4th ds 4 yrs ago. Our other 3 boys have traditional names so Lake definitely didn't "go". Plus, we got some odd reactions when we told a few people of the possibility of Lake. So, we chickened out & went w/ another "normal" name.
To this day we regeret our decision. He's a boy who would have gotten away w/ the name Lake & we really didn't care if it "went" w/ our other boys' names anyway. I suggest sticking w/ your heart.
None that I wouldn't personally use, although my husband gets a say, of course. ;) These are a few that either he or others might deem as more unusual choices:
Gwyneth
Talulla
Beatrix
Grainne
Vannora
Niamh
Alice
Eloise
Ruby
Ewan
Finnian/Findlay
Lachlan
Perfectly normal names to many, but you wouldn't believe some of the responses they've gotten! ;)

I have for the last 24 years loved the girls name Amethyst and always said that I would name my DD that. Well when we were pregnant I bought up the name Amethyst and even though DH liked it he didn't love it enough. So it became our DD's middle name and we went with our second choice Caroline. Just recently DH has said that he loves the name Amethyst and that we should have named our DD that. She would have gone by the nickname of Amy.
She has also recently told us that she loves her middle name Amethyst and she is only four. Also at that time she didn't like the name Caroline but she loves her name again now.
My Mum hated the name Amethyst and has enough trouble trying to spell it let alone trying to say it. Actually nobody else really likes it apart from DH and I. Everyone else was really relieved when it wasn't her first name.

My DH and I love the name Masiela. We are not sure we will ever use the name but we both love it. I wish we would have the guts to use it.

Once upon a time, I dreamed of giving all my kids nature names like Meadow, Forest, Lark.
hmm...interesting question. Well, I have decided that my childrens mn will be after family members, but this wasn't always the plan. I use to want them to all have rare virtue mn: Pax, Amity, True, and Honor/Honora. I still really like Honor or Pax, but I think it is more important to honor family now. I also love the name Isla, but my last name is hard to pronounce so I do not want to burden my daughter with a difficult name.
