I have to say, I never understood why a name has to "go" with siblings.

That said, there's a book called the Baby Name Wizard that suggests sibling names.

I completely agree with you. I've never thought of it before, either, but everytime I think of a name I always hear that it doesn't go with Hanna and Grant.

Granted (no pun intended), I am about 10 years older than my siblings, but, even when we were little, it's not like we always were said in the same breath. We were our own people. Especially now that we're all out of the house, I don't think it matters.

If you've already got a Hanna and Grant, I would imagine you'll probably go with an older, traditional, probably English-sounding name. But, you could go crazy and pick anything. If you went with something Hawaiian or another strongly ethnic name, it might sound a little different than the other two, but who cares? If you like the name and it fits the kid, go for it!

The funny thing is my husband and I are very untraditional. We loved Hanna (before it was popular) and Grant is a family name. We don't like popular names, so we're trying to think out of the box. I would call my style for a girl-pretty. I just want a pretty girl name and for a boy I just want something a little different that you don't hear all the time.

I don't think they have to match like a set of china (or a set of J's,) but more to seem like they come from the same parents as opposed to say have Noel (male,) Hans, Heidi and Darryl (true story.) The first three give off this strong European vibe and then...well...there's "my other brother, Darryl." I wouldn't worry too much about being matchy-matchy, but I would worry about being clashy-clashy.
