What's wrong with Giselle???

WDYT of the name GISELLE? I think it's an absolutely beautiful name, but my husband hates it. He says it's too frilly - this coming from the man who said he liked LORELEI, which I think is just as frilly as Giselle. I suppose if he's made up his mind that he doesn't like it, then that's that. I'm still a little frustrated, though, that he won't even consider it. It's not like I'm asking him to name a boy Giselle. What's wrong with a girl's name being frilly? (Better stop complaining now or I'll need to move to the "rants" section).

Your thoughts on this name and how to convince dh it's perfectly acceptable?

Personally, I never understand why people say they don't like a girls name because it's frilly. To me, that is exactly what I would want for my daughter. I think Giselle is beautiful and would take "frilly" as a compliment. At least everyone would know she's a girl when they heard/saw her name. Great choice!

The only thing I can think is that it sounds very similar to gazelle, and it has sounds (G/Z) that some might not consider very pretty. I think more people prefer the L sounds of Lorelei and that nice open vowel ending rather than the "closed" Giselle. Also, Giselle gives the French impression, which some might see as stuck-up.

FWIW, I think Giselle is a great name although I tend to prefer it in the mn slot.

Good luck trying to convince your DH! (I worked hard to convince my DH to go with Amelia for DD#2, but it never worked. :-P )

I agree with you it does remind me of Gazelle, but I think Giselle is a pretty name its just NMS which is fine. We don't all have to love the same names, as long as both parents agree. Maybe after he hears you say it a few times he'll get used to it. I found that to be true with my dh. Names he has never heard of before tend to get a thumbs down from him. But after hearing me say it out loud a zillion times, he grows used to the idea, and even sometimes starts to like the name.
