What's wrong with Hope?

My husband loves the name Gracie, but I really feel it is too trendy! Grace/Gracie is used so much lately. I really like the name Hope, I thought it was a nice alternative to Grace. Everyone seems to think it is just okay. (Maybe for a middle name, people say.) I thought it was a timeless name like Grace? What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I don't like it at all... seems very cheesy. I feel almost silly when calling someone Hope.

Hope really isn't that common as a fn - I only know of one little girl named Hope. Grace is lovely and much more common - Grace:14; Hope: 184. Have you thought about Felicity? It is 690 on the popularity list, cute like Gracie, and it is a virtue name (means happiness). Fliss is a very cute nn, I learned of this nn from Ginger :) Good luck!

I like Hope. It isn't super popular, it is easy to spell, it sounds nice and classic.

The problem with telling people the name you are considering is that people will give opinions... and who knows why they don't love it, or prefer it as a second name. If you really like it, no one is going to have anything negative to say if you name your DD Hope. It isn't offensive/teasing material/made up/difficult to spell.

I like names that aren't super popular. However, that is probably why people aren't gushing over it... it isn't in one of the currently popular categories (-bella names, -aylee names, etc.)

Go for it!

I really like virtue names. All names have meanings and most of them started out as the word, or variation of the word, for that meaning in the original language. I don't think most people expect a little Grace to be especially graceful. I had a friend in middle school who was named Charity. No one expected her to be more charitable than anyone else, and she was no less charitable than anyone else.

I guess I don't see a problem with naming a child something that has an obvious meaning in our language. I know someone who named her daughter Serenity. Lots of people had a good laugh over that, since the baby was known for expressing her opinions loudly and frequently. But the mother said that she thought the name fit well because she wanted her child to have a serenity of spirit. She felt that the child was happy (and serene) within herself and was just a more vocal personality.

So go with Hope if it's beautiful to you. I doubt that she'll be expected to be constantly optimistic.

I agree with you, it's a timeless name like Grace. Actually, I think it's a little more refreshing b/c it seems a little less popular right now. But I like it, don't think there is anything wrong with it whatsoever.

Hi, I love the name Hope and Grace/Gracie. Both names sound so feminine and classic to me. I considered Hope as a first, then middle name for my daughter born 1 year ago. We ended up choosing Mia Grace as her name. But I would consider "Hope" again if I have another girl. As you know, if you ask for opinions on names, there are always people who won't like your name, it just isn't their style, so I would stick with a name you love no matter what. Good Luck
