I discussion on my playgroup board got me thinking, do pet names follow the trends?
Let's have your pets name and how old they are (how long ago they were named).

I currently have 3 dogs,
Cosmo (male) 7 years
Addy (female) 5 years
Leia (female) 3 years

I have had twin red-eared slider turtles, named Yoda and Yoshi, 4 years ago; and a blind beta fish, named Tyresius 6 years ago.

I have a kitten (about 8 months old) named Teaser - this was the name of my childhood cat Jingles' mother and I revived the name because I came across it on my day-by-day cat calendar back in November the same week that I had to put my 13-year-old cat Goober to his final rest. just thought it seemed sort of like an omen.

I have a 7-month-old puppy named Ivie - I named her five months ago.

I don't think mine follows trends per se. I picked it because it's English (she's a Welsh Corgi mix) and it's the name of an old jazz singer I like.

My dog's name is Jack - age 12. My brother-in-law's dog was recently put to sleep at age 23, he was named Max.

My dog is named Rocky. Our cats are Midnight and Angel; and our hamster is Chester.

These were all named by my kids, so I don't think they follow any trends. :)

I currently have 2 dogs.

River (age 3)--Named for a detour down River Street that happened to take me by the pound.
Soichiro (age 8)--Named after a dog in a Japanese comic. I have a few regrets about this one because no one can ever pronounce it. The nn Soey helps, but it's always confused with Zoe, and it's assumed he's female.

Usually, I don't choose popular human names for my pets, so I've avoided trends for the most part. 20+ years ago I was part of the revival of old-fashioned girl names when I had 3 dogs named Maggie, Ruby, and Eleanor. They were named after songs: Maggie May, Ruby Tuesday, and Eleanor Rigby. We always called Eleanor Rigby by her full name or shortened it to Rigby--never Eleanor or Ellie.

We have a 7 1/2 yr. old boxer named Oscar...after Oscar de la Hoya and a 2 1/2 yr. old named Sargent. My husband wanted to name him Ranger but I didn't like it so we went through other "army rank" names. He was almost Henry and we wish sometimes we would have went w/ Henry b/c he looks like one. Oscar was almost Cash after Casius (Ali's real name). He is an Oscar through and through. I don't think these follow any trends. Do they?

Great question!

My cats are Oliver (8 years) and Sophie (4 years). I also had a Chloe who I named 9 years ago. I chose all the names b/c I thought they were very cute, but almost too cute for me to use on an actual child. Oliver was almost Oscar, Sophie was almost Zoe, and Chloe was almost Cleo or Oreo.
