Which names are future up and comers?

I was just reading a post on the other name board from a woman who is upset because the names she picked as unique for her kids, are now quickly climbing the ranks. (My mom said the same thing about both my and my sister's names.) I guess the post really struck me because I intend to use one of the names that she was complaining about - Eliana. I am not going to go into why we picked it, but suffice it to say it is perfect for us! But now I am worrying. It is ranked around 300 now, but I would also probably be upset if it suddenly skyrocketed to the top of the charts.

So my question is, I know that no one knows for sure, but some of you ladies seem to know a lot more about name trends than I do, so do you have any thoughts on which names are going to be the next Emma, and Hannah? Boys or Girls, I just thought it would be interesting to see a list of which names, or trends in names you think are going to 'hit' next.

I must admit I cringe everytime I hear another Ava and I actually have to figure out how old that child is so that I know I picked the name before that other mom...LOL. Anyway, as a teacher (5 years) I can say that I have only had 1 Emily total. And hasn't that been close to the top of the list forever????

Several years ago, when it seemed that every second girl here in Australia was being named Jessica, I read a report that this name being at the top of the lists still only meant that 0.2% of baby girls were receiving that name in that particular year. And I think that names, particularly girl's names, have become more diverse over time, so even if Eliana climbs quite high into the lists I think you'll find it is still quite rare.

And, yes, it's an absolutely beautiful name. Good luck to you!

I think Eliana is an absolutely beautiful name. If you are concerned about popularity though (I don't know, in my area it doesn't seem all that popular and I hope it stays that way, so the girls that DO have the name can be uniquely beautiful!)- what about Iliana? Or something else like it:

Ilianna
Ileanna
Iliana
Ileana

Basically a similar name, just a little different. I mean, I don't know if it's just as popular, or more popular, or what will happen in recent years...just thought it was an idea.

Best of luck to you! :-)
