I am pg for the second time and can not choose the right name. I do not know yet what I am having but if it is a boy then the name is already a guarantee. He will be named after my dh. We have one girl named, Emily, and I have picked a few names that I really like that sound well with Emily...I just can't decide which I like the best. Here is my list, I would love to hear what any of you like best, Thanks...
Aida
Baily
Ebony
Ellie
Ella
Erin (the one I am routing for)
Evelyn

I like Erin and Evelyn from your list.
Aida, Baily and Ebony are really odd in comparison to the classic and pretty name, Emily.
Ellie is a nickname and Ella seems too similar to Emily.
Aida- Pretty name, but very different from Emily so they sound like an odd pairing
Baily- Bailey (spelt properly) goes fairly well with Emily, even though I do associate it strongly as a dog's name!
Ebony- see Aida
Ellie- too nicknamey, too similar to Emily, definitely avoid it!
Ella- see Ellie
Erin (the one I am routing for)- nice, but I wouldn't use another E name
Evelyn- pretty
I think Ellie and Ella are WAY too close with Emily- PLEASE don't use them!!! In fact, I would avoid all E names in general. As pretty as Aida and Ebony are, they are very different in style from Emily and seem like odd pairings. None of the names really seem perfect with Emily, although I do like Erin, but dislike that they both begin with E's. Here are some fresh ideas:
Lila
Clara/Claire
Sophia/Sophie
Lucy
Bridget
Georgia
Daphne
Tessa
Celeste
Jaclyn
Megan
Greta
Jane
Lorelei
Corey

Well, I have to agree with the PP. None of these are great for me.
Aida -_ Not quite sure how to pronounce this, very different style than Emily.
Baily -- Again, very diferent style, esp with a more unusual spelling.
Ebony -- I'm not sure if you realized, but this sounds VERY close to Emily although the styles are completely different. Try saying them fast Emily-Ebony, Emily-Ebony they're almost the same!
Ellie -- Also sounds VERY close to Emily.
Ella -- Could be nice with Emily but also VERY similar
Erin (the one I am routing for) -- Could be nice with Emily but also very similar with the beginning E sound.
Evelyn -- Could be nice with Emily but also very similar with the beginning E sound.
I think you will find that many of the posters here are not fond of "matchy-poo" sib sets, all one letters, rhyming, themed, etc. For that reason, most E names are not going to get a great reaction. the other names you have mentioned are much more unusual or much more contemporary when compared to the classic Emily.
How about:
Abigail (Abby)
Ada
Ava
Anna
Annabelle
Brianna
Claire
Caroline
Charlotte
Elizabeth (lots of NN options that don't start with E here - Liz, Libby, Beth, etc)
Gabriella (could get Ella as a NN here)
Grace
Hannah
Isabella (see Gabriella)
Jane
Jocelyn
Jacqueline
Josephine (Josie)
Julia
Katherine (Kate)
Laura
Lily
Lucy
Lydia
Madeleine
Marissa
Olivia
Rachel
Rebecca
Sarah
Susanna
Sophie
Virginia

Aida- I love it! so old fashioned and classic- a good pairing w/ Emily
Baily- I agree that it sounds like a dog's name
Ebony- I like it, I think it compliments Emily w/ out being too similar
Ellie- would be good as a nn for something like Elizabeth or Eliza
Ella-I feel the same about this one as I do Ellie
Erin- LOVE LOVE LOVE this name!!!!
Evelyn- this name is so sweet and works very well with Emily
hope this helps!!
mom 2 Leslie Alyvia ans Austen Lila
To go with Emily, I think Erin or Evelyn would be best. I love Aida, if you're pronouncing it the same as in the opera, but I agree it seems an odd pairing with the more classic and traditional Emily.
A few more names you might like:
- Annabelle
- Antonia
- Catherine
- Charlotte (though that may be a bit too Brontë for you, LOL)
- Claire/Clare
- Elisabeth/Elizabeth
- Helen
- Johanna
- Judith
- Lillian
- Lucy (or Lucille, nn Lucy)
- Megan
- Nancy
- Phoebe
- Philippa
- Priscilla
- Rebecca
Hi there. Congrats on #2!
Emily is a pretty name. Here are my thoughts on your list:
Aida-Hm. I like the musical, but this name is really too much. Especially next to the sweet & simple Emily.
Baily-No no no. This is trendy & unisex.
Ebony-This is way too close to Emily.
Ellie-Also too close to Emily, although I really like this as a nn.
Ella-This is nice, & definitly works.
Erin (the one I am routing for)-Same as above.
Evelyn-That's classy. I like it.
Hope this helps!
My name is Emily and my sisters are Sara & Laura.
I always thought Sara, Laura and Emily go well together??
