Which spelling of Lucy?
| Thu, 05-03-2007 - 4:34pm |
Hi everyone, I tried to post this before, but it didn't work.
Which spelling of Lucy do you like better? Last name starts with an S (not that it matters much).
Lucy (traditional)
Lucie (I think this looks like a younger, more stylish way)
Luci
Lucia (pronounced Lou-C-uh)
I don't like Lucille, so my choices are to stick with Lucy or Lucia.
Thanks!

Either Lucy or Lucia - depends on which name you really want. Definitly not the other two.

It's also the eastern european way to spell Lucy which would fall in line with my culture but since you didn't mention anything about culture I just assumed you were looking for a "fresh" way to spell Lucy. If you are french then I don't see anything wrong with spelling it Lucie but if you have no French ties then stick to Lucy.

I'm no good at suggesting other names. lol I'll let the other ladies do that. :) What is it about Lucy that you really like? That it is short? The style? I'm sure that will help out the other ladies with ideas. :)

I have a coworker whose wife's name is Lucie. I'm not sure if it is her full name or a nn, but I am equally split between Lucy and Lucie for this reason. I like the traditional spelling, but the "ie" looks perfectly natural to me too since I know someone who spells it this way.
I also really, really like Lucia. To me, it sounds more formal and so you could use a nn. I think Lucie would naturally flow from there since it's a more nicknamey-name than Lucia, and it's only one letter off. Lucia nn Lucie is what I would pick - actually I consider this for myself. :)
Awww thanks for your suggestions everyone! I'm so split between Lucie, Lucy and Lucia....I'm at a loss. To me, Lucy is so cute and fun and traditional. Lucie seems much younger and a little more stylish to me. Lucia I never liked but recently it's grown on me. I do like the middle name Belle (so does DH) and I think Lucia sounds best with Belle as Lucia Belle versus Lucie or Lucy Belle.
We love this combo but then my friend said "omg it sounds like Lucille Ball!" Then I got upset because now all I can think about is that it sounds like Lucille Ball. Actually Lucille Ball spelled her name Lucy but spelled her daughter's Lucie....ohhh decisions decisions...
Why is spelling a name so hard??
I love just plain, normal Lucy. ;) Coming from a Kelli (yes, with an "i"), I'd highly encourage you to use the traditional spelling. Trust me ... it gets old.
Lucille isn't the only other formal version you could use, btw. Any of these would also work (not sure of your style, but there are quite a few to choose from).
You get the idea. ;)
