Which spelling of Lucy?

Hi everyone, I tried to post this before, but it didn't work.

Which spelling of Lucy do you like better? Last name starts with an S (not that it matters much).

Lucy (traditional)
Lucie (I think this looks like a younger, more stylish way)
Luci
Lucia (pronounced Lou-C-uh)

I don't like Lucille, so my choices are to stick with Lucy or Lucia.

Thanks!

Thanks for all of your suggestions/comments, guys! I really liked the suggestion of Luciana. That is beautiful! And the fact that you guys suggested using Lucia and then I could call her Lucy or Lucie is great.

Any thoughts on the middle name we like? Does it really sound like Lucille Ball when you say Lucia Belle or Lucie Belle? I didn't realize it because I always said the whole name with our last name, so it's not like her name would be JUST Lucia Belle....

Luciana Belle might solve the problem....LOL

I usually like to stick w/ traditional spellings but Lucie appeals to me. Luci does not. I think Lucia will be mispronounced as LOO-shuh.

Therefore, I suggest sticking w/ Lucy or, maybe more interesting, Lucie.

I do hear the Lucille Ball thing with the mn Belle. Luciana definitely helps avoid that. ;) Not sure if it was your style or not, but Lucienne Belle works too.

That is really pretty too!! I just found this name too: Luciela (I could have the "elle" sound of "belle" without having the Lucille Ball sound....do you know what the name means/origins? I couldn't find it on a few different sites that I checked...

geeez -- redoxgirl i met YOU could have the sound "elle" without having the name "belle" if you went with Luciela. I came across the name when I read your post and did a google search for variants of Lucy. Sorry -- made typo in last post, hehe.

I'm not familiar with Luciela, but it looks like either a typo or variation of Lucilla or perhaps just a combo of Lucy and the popular -ela/ella suffix. Assuming it is just another form of Lucy/Lucia/Lucille, all are generally traced back to lux, meaning light.

There's also Lucina, Lucine, Lucretia, Lucrezia,

Somehow missed the previous posts before. ;)

Regarding "Lucie" ... it's true this is a French form, but it also changes the way the name is pronounced. Rather than LOO-see, you get loo-SEE (emphasis on the second syllable). If that's what you want, it's lovely, but otherwise it really just comes across as an attempt to be more unique (like my own "i" ending LOL).

People who aren't familiar with French will simply assume it a kre8iv spelling (though not an uncommon one), and those who ARE will wonder why you're mispronouncing it. ;) Just something to keep in mind.

LOL! I replied to your comments thinking you were the OP ... disregard that, but I'll leave the post anyhow. ;)

as the mom of a 2 year old Lucy, I'd say go w/the more traditional spelling if you are in the US. We considered Lucinda-but it was TOOO close to Linda, my dad's DW2. We also considered Lucienne- but most people butchered it to Lucy Ann, so we ended up with Lucy Elizabeth & have had no regrets. We call her Lulu & Lulabelle as well. Its a great name BTW ;p

mommyagain, thanks SO much for all of your help and advice. you've given me a lot to think about. DH and i want to start trying this summer and he is SO picky about names that we decided to start talkin about it now.

also, i read a previous poster suggest the name Luciela. DH LOVES IT. I googled it and it is a variant of Lucille. I think it's really pretty and we do want something different -- something not many kids have and apparently this name has not been in the top 1,000 like ever...somethin else to think about ;)

and I loved your suggestion of Lucienne. Very pretty. :)

BTW, I love the names of your girls, especially Devanie -- so different and so elegant.
