I was perusing the list of 2005 baby names for my province (BC) and came across these three:

Chloe
Chloé
Chloë

Would these actually be pronouced differently or are people taking the kre8tive spellings too far?

I'm not sure if they would be pronounce differently, but I think seeing the different markings above the 'e' would throw me for a loop. I do think people are getting a bit *too* creative with the spellings of names. Be creative if you want to, but don't be *so* creative that you confuse the heck out of people! *L*

The proper French spelling is Chloë. The two dots over the E are used in French when there are two vowels together, and both of them are supposed to be pronounced individually. The same is true for Zoë and the word naïve. Chloé is a misspelling. The accent mark over this E would mean that this name would be pronounced clo-ay, not clo-ee. It's likely that these people are ignorant and uneducated, and just felt the need to add "something" to the name but didn't know what exactly. Chloe is just the Americanized version, since we don't use accent marks, cedillas, or other marks to distinguish the sounds that our letters make.
