Will people think we are nuts?

We both just came across a name that we both really like for some reason and it sounds great with our other 2 kids names. I just wonder if people will think it is too 'old' sounding? The name is Olive. What are your thoughts and if you like it any suggestions for middle names? TIA!

I just think of the little green sour foods and couldn't picture a sweet little girl with that name. Food names are just not my thing.

Oh, my gosh, it's horrible. So sorry, but you just can name your child Olive.

Olive is a lovely, refreshing change from Olivia. It's a definite classic. Sweetly feminine and graceful feeling.

I say use it.. I think it's a gorgeous name! FYI, Olive is Marie Osmond's real first name. And if anyone thinks you're nuts.. smile sweetly and wait a year or two. People are getting sick of Olivia and Olive will start making a comeback as it did years ago. Lovely, lovely name!

We have a friend named Olive..although she isn't the most beautiful person in the world she still suits her name.

To each their own..but finding a name for a child is hard and if there is one that jumps out as being the ONE then I say go for it- no matter what other people say.

Eve, Erik and Olive sounds really nice together. Good Luck!

Olive? Like the little green thingies you eat? Naaah... how about... Pickle? or Pimento? or maybe Onion? LOL sorry, just kidding. I couldn't resist. I'm just not into food names.

Eva and Erik are great names. I wouldn't throw Olive in there though. A few I think might work better:

Eden

Esther

Ivy

Abby

Ana or Anna ("AH-na")

Just my 2 cents...

I don't like it, mostly b/c I think that the alternative, Olivia, is far more beautiful. I know, though, that it has become ragingly popular in recent years. If you really, really like Olive, I'd suggest using it as a middle name only.

Best of luck to you!

Hi there! Well, you are right, Eva, Erik, & Olive do sound great together. I thought about the name a little more today, and it's definitely growing on me. (Still don't like Olivia, though!)

Here are some other names that I came up with, just for fun and for whatever it's worth. I tried to find things that were somewhat uncommon, stylish, and sounded good with the other childrens' names. I'm not sure I found anything with the same style as Olive, but I think there are some interesting names here for you to peruse.

Athena

Ophelia

Portia

Viola

Verity

Eugenie (pronounciation euh-zhay-nee)

Elsa

Electra

Esme

Estella

Artemis

Antonia

Astrid

I think Ophelia is my favorite.

Thanks for humoring me by looking at my list!

I like Olive. I am sure some people will say "what?" but people say that no matter what name you give a child.

Boy, I thought people were mean-spirited a few months ago when I asked what they thought of Lola, but this is ridiculous. People, please do not say something is "horrible" or "atrocious," tell someone they "can't name their kid that," or crack lame jokes about pickles, etc. It's really cruel! Say it isn't your style, say you don't care for it, or say nothing at all if you can't be constructive. How would you feel if someone trashed a name you like in such a rude way? Sheesh! Especially when it is an actual name with a long history.

As I keep saying here, we named our first DD Olivia having no clue how overly popular it is. I think Olive is really sweet, and it means the olive branch of peace, just like Olivia. I think it fits in well with the other old-fashioned names that are making comebacks.
