We both just came across a name that we both really like for some reason and it sounds great with our other 2 kids names. I just wonder if people will think it is too 'old' sounding? The name is Olive. What are your thoughts and if you like it any suggestions for middle names? TIA!

Thanks Thelma - I really do appreciate the honest responses but yes some are difficult to hear. I actually hadn't thought too much about it sounding like olive the food if anything besides a name I just think of olive as a color. I actually don't know why we like it - we both just heard it and looked at each other and thought that might work. Go figure! Thank you to everyone who replied - I actually got much more positive feedback than I thought I would! :)

I don't think anyone here was being mean spirited. She asked for people's opinions. One thing I look at when thinking of names, is... what kinds of ideas will this name spark to other kids to tease him/her with? And... as the poster who cracked the pickle joke (which, by the way, I said sorry, just kidding- was not intended as mean spirited) - THOSE are the kinds of things other kids (and teenagers) will come up with to say. It's better to think of them now, than have your child have to hear them later. In my opinion anyway.

Loosen up a little- 'twas all in fun.

It's really, really nmsaa. Would you use it for a boy or girl?? I don't care for it either way. I am a school teacher and I can't imagine the looks on my 4th graders faces when I call the name Olive on the attendance sheet. I am not trying to be "mean" as some would say, but I have had children in past years whose faces got beet-red when I called out their names and then I felt so bad for them afterwards. Then they would usually very meekly say "I like to be called ____" Really, it's just something to think about.

Also, Olive doesn't go great with Erik & Eve, which by the way are great names. I like the name Elyse for a girl and it goes good with the others,

Sorry,

Brooke

Besides the name Olive reminding us of Olive Oil and Or Oyl it has another very definite suymbolism. I believe that it may mean peace as in the olive branch. Now seriously I wouldn't call her Olive Branch. So how about:

Olive Acacia (from the Acacia tree which is the symbol of immortality and resurrection.)

Yet that might be bit over board although the meaning is quite nice.

Olive Marie

Olive Leigh

Olive Fern

Olive Francesca

Olive Patricia

Olive Shauntelle

Olive Shannon

Olive Suzette

Olive Susanna

Olive Theresa

Olive Leatrice

Olive Beatrice

Olive Chelsea

Olive JoAnna

Olive RoxAnna

Olive Chavella (spanish form of Isabel)

Olive Isabella

Olive Carolina

Olive Abbie

Olive Jean

Olive Jane

Olive Jo

Olive Mae

Olive Daniella

Olive Miranda

Olive Darlinda

this is about all I can come up with for now. I bet there are lots more. For an idea you could take the letters in all of your names and or just the kids names and create your own special mn. Good luck.
