My DH likes the name WIlliam (nn Will), but we really don't want anything that is too popular right now. I have heard of a lot of Will's lately....just wondering if you have too. Seems like it is a common name to use right now.

I babysit for a William and a Liam (not the same family) and my best friend's boyfriend is named William (nn Wil with one l for some reason). I really love the name but it is and has always been very popular. I think Willem is a nice alternative. JMHO, Simone.

I love William/Will. I know several Williams, but they all use the full form, William. I don't know any Wills at all, and the only Billys I know are 30+. I think it's a great name, popular or not, and in my area isn't nearly as popular as Justin, Anthony, Daniel, Matthew, Christopher, or Elijah to name just a few that are around every corner.

I like William/Will. My only concern with it is I wouldn't want him to end up being called Willy or Billy. I once heard of a little boy with the name Will Franklin, which I think is adorable. GL deciding!

I don't think the name is "getting" too popular, I think it IS popular. I think that whether it is being used a lot right now in the present is not the issue, b/c even if it wasn't, there would be 100s of Williams around. It is likely that your son would run into friends that have fathers, uncles, grandfathers, etc with the name. It has been around for SO long, and used SO much, that it's just not going to be an unrecognized name whether it is popular now or not. There are so many Williams throughout history that it will always be a well-known name.

Now, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be use! What I love about the name is that it IS classic and timeless. Even if it is becoming popular now, or if it does become popular in recent years, it will STILL not be trendy... there is such a difference between popular and trendy, and the name's history has made it classy.

Best of luck to you!
