Would this be tacky?

We can't decide what we want to name this baby boy! We like Maclain but it doesn't have great nicknames and is not very baby and toddler like. We also like Max but it is sorta nicknamish. Would it be wrong to name him Maclain and then just plan to NN him Max? Any suggestions? Jules

I think that would be fine.

I think it's doable.
Not at all!
I see nothing wrong with. A little girl, born on 6 July 1921, was named Anne Frances Robbins, but she went by the name Nancy. Nancy went on to become a famous actress and later on she became First Lady of the US when her Ronnie was sworn into office in 1980.
I actually like the idea of giving children legal names, but then using an entirely different nickname/name to call them by. This happened a great many times in the family of Queen Victoria. One son was nicknamed Affie, another son Bertie, a daughter was Lenchen, etc.
