Would you use a name if...

it didn't sound great with your last name? We're just TTC right now, but we have a girl name that we both LOVE. Unfortunately, it doesn't flow well with our last name. We are totally in love with the name Talulla, although thus far everyone we know HATES it. Our last name is Lucier (pro like Lou-see-ay. What are your thoughts on this...Would you use a name you loved regardless of how it sounds with your ln or pick something else you may not love as much, but has a better flow?

Thanks,
Annie

i don't think talulla and lucier sound terrible together...would you consider hyphenating(sp?) "talulla-mae lucier" with a middle name you like? or use your maiden name for a middle name, to separate the two names. i really think using a middle name would be a good idea, but not necessary. i like the name and think its fine with your last name.
good luck!

I happen to love the name Talulla, and I don't think it sounds badly with your last name. I would use it if you love it.
Good luck,

We're not sure of a nn yet. Mostly because we're not totally set on using Talulla. There are a few other names we've tossed around- Cordelia, Delilah, Phoebe, but we keep coming back to Talulla. We definitely wouldn't use Lulu though. Lulu Lucier is just wrong!

I'm just not a huge fan of hyphenating so we won't do that. We will use a mn, but don't have a mn picked just yet. It will be either Rosemary (my mom), Edith (dh Grandmother) or Sally (our dearest friend who passed away) or some mixture of those names like Meredith or Rosalie.

Thanks for the suggestions though!

I would use the name I love best unless the first/last name combo was actually cruel or silly or something. I mean, if my last name were Bar, I would not name a daughter Candy, even if Candy were my favorite name in the world; and if my last name were McDonald, I would not use Ronald. But Tallula Lucier is fine!

I couldn't do it - Lu-LA-LU????? that's the sound you'll hear as you're going from the first name to the last name

me and my SO had a hard time trying to find a name that we both liked that would flow with his last name(Pequignot!). we finally came to the conclusion that it was impossible, especially since we both like unique names with unique spellings. we finally gave up and went ahead with the name we both loved- Esspyn Midnight. IMO you should go with what you love. your child will love her name no matter what.

hello!! talulla lucier is a huge mouthful...i think i would toss around more names to see if theres anything else that might flow better and you might decide you like better. i dont really care for the name talulla, but its up to you in the end...fwiw, before i became pregnant both times, i had names picked out that i adored-only to change my mind. that happens often-you pick a name you love and then you get pregnant and change your mind...so keep your options open when you do finally conceive...take care and good luck!

I haven't read the responses but I personally would not use a first name that did not sound good with the last name. It just sets them up for years of ridicule, because us as the parent, like the name. Our last name ends in "in" so I ruled out all names that end in 'in' and start with the 1st letter of our last name. That eliminated a lot of names we really like, but I don't want the child growing up tortured either! Kids can be cruel. JMO!
