Pyelectasis anyone?
Fri, 06-11-2010 - 7:23pm

Hi all,

I had an u/s a couple weeks ago and our baby had some slight dialation of the renal pelvis (the part of the kidney that collects urine).  It was very slight and borderline at 4mm.  Both the perientologist and our OB assured us that they believed all would be fine and it was an isolated finding.  However, the Peri also had to tell us that the dialation was a soft marker for Downs Syndrome.  We choose to bypass screening for genetic disorders.  So now I am left with a 1 and 200 chance of Downs based on my age and the dialation.  Most of the information I have read says that Pyelectasis has a very weak association with Downs, but I cant help but worry.  I have another u/s in about a month to see if the problem has resolved itself.

Anyone else had this show up in an u/s or know someone who had this diagnosis?

Thanks for reading!

Hi Donae!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I recognize your name from the TTCYFC6+ board; I started out there too and still lurk to check up on the people I know.

((HUGS)) I have no experience with pyelectasis or soft markers, but I hope that your next u/s shows that the issue has resolved and that you can then have a
