Just curious if anyone has had experience?? I'm fine...not myself these days and the therapist (OK I admit I'm losing my mind) I've been talking to said if I wasn't breastfeeding she would recommend antidepressants for me. Not sure I want to go "there" but I thought I'd check in with you gals on it. She said yoga is good too. Hmm. Yoga or drugs. Tough choice.

I think like everything else Dr have different views on this. When my neice was born 9 years ago it was clear in the delivery room to the covering OB my sister needed some (really the OB was my mom's old Dr and they were close and he came right out in said in his 30 plus he NEVER had a patient like her) so his parting words were get her some prozac and the nurse responded she's BF and he changed his tune. He also ended up being my OB (my mom was my reference I am NOTHING like my sister ;0

Anne -

I'm so sorry that you are not doing well. If you need medication, I think you should do it. It is possible to take antidepressants AND bf. I think too many people are told that they can only take antidepressants if they aren't

Hey Annie - there are a couple of medications that are BF safe and Pregnancy safe and if you need it then do it. I did BOTH Meds and YOGA and it helped a lot. I think the Meds got me to a place where the Ypga was beneficial - does that make sense?

Hi Annie-

I am sorry you are feeling down. I can relate--I went through depression prior to having Maddie and was on meds. I know other women who have BF and taken antidepressants. From what I understand, most of the SSRI's are safe (Prozac, etc). In Dr. Sears Book "The Breastfeeding Book" he recommends starting with Zoloft first and then trying others if that doesn't work.

As for Yoga, it did help me during IF treatments relax, although I would not say it is a cure all if you really are depressed. Some good videos to start with are those from "Yoga Zone". They are easy and only are 20 minutes each--perfect for mommies with little time. They don't make new ones anymore, but you can get them on amazon and other sites. I still pop one in when Maddie gives me a chance.

I hope that you are feeling better soon!

Thanks ladies. I appreciate your info. Not sure what I will do. I have another appointment on Thursday. I'll mention what you gals said about Zoloft.

Hi Annie,

My docs never had a problem with antidepressants and pregnancy/BFing.
