Help with constipation (Emma)

Emma is now 8 months old. When she was born she used to go every 4-5 days, but she wasn't constipated, it was just her schedule. Now though, she is constipated. She is on formula, eats baby food 1-2 per day, and is very active with crawling, rolling, always wants to move. My ped recommended grape juice but just like Sofia, she will not drink juice. I'm staying away from carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes, bananas, and cereal. She is eating prunes, pears, apples, apricots, squash, but still constipated. I'm massaging her tummy several times a day. I've even tried suppositories with no real luck.
So, any of you BTDT moms have any good advice for me? Anyone tried laxatives, and if so what kind and how much? I really feel for her, sometimes she starts straining like she needs to go but nothing comes out. :(

Poor Emma! Sara had constipation issues but younger then Emma is now - we added about an ounce of apple juice to her bottle twice a day to get it moving and then kept it up for at least one bottle for about a month until she was regular. Do you think she would take it if you added it to her bottle? I don't think there are many laxative that are recommended for a baby Emma's age - I would check with the ped before doing any of that. You sound like you are doing everything right - not sure what else you can do - but maybe cycling her legs when you see her straining? Kind of help her out a little. The Ped told us NOT to do the suppositories unless it was the last resort and then not to do them often as the baby may get too used to not having to push it out themselves again Sara was much younger - like 2 months old - when he said that though. Have you tried Barley cereal? This really cleans Sara out - I mixed prunes into it once and boy did she "clean" out that night! Good Luck!

Thanks Andi! I'll try adding the juice to her bottle, maybe then she'll take it. I know about not doing the supps too often, but right now she actually has some poop that is so hard she can't get it out. (I actually saw it, Sorry for the TMI)
Haven't tried the barley cereal, but I did give her some mango this morning, that will hopefully help her.

I also used to use a q-tip with some vasoline on it to stim the area to get those pellets out - sorry TMI again! We never made it to suppositories because the juice worked after a couple of days. Good Luck!

Andi, I've been using the thermometer, with vaseline, to help her along. Good news though, she did get some out tonight, had 3 poopy diapers, still very solid, but it seems the supp finally helped her.
I did try some juice in her bottle this afternoon, not a huge hit but she drank some of it. Hopefully she'll get used to it and that will help to keep things moving. Thanks for the tip!!!

Thanks Cindy, I'll keep that in mind. I did get some juice in her today, added about an ounce to her bottle and she took it. I think yesterday the ratio of formula/juice was to even. Today more like 4-5 to 1. Hopefully this will help her out. She did get rid of some more today, so this afternoon she has been the smiliest baby ever! :)
