The American Academy of Pediatrics has been recommending that babies stay rear-facing in car seats to the limits of their car seats since 2002.
The new recommendation is that babies/toddlers stay rear-facing until they are at least 2 years old... http://aapnews.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/30/4/12-a
I'm assuming that this recommendation is based on the study published in the Injury Prevention Journal in December 2007... http://www.fortwayne.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/SE/20071210/NEWS/712100332
If anyone (esp. our newer members;) want more information about extended rear-facing, please let me know. Marcus was rf until he was 2 1/2 years old and Isabelle is still riding rf at 4 years old.
