Andrea, IMO, I would do consistent days.

Andrea -

Are you going to have Nicholas in the daycare all day long on the days he goes? Or just part of the day? I think that has to figure into your decision. If it is half days, I'd go with 3 days a week. If it is full days, I'd only go with 2 days a week.

Isabelle and Marcus started preschool in the fall at 3 y 9 m and they go 4 mornings a week. That really is more than enough for them and I'm actually considering going to 3 days a week for the next year.

I would ask questions about the routine and how much structure they have during the day. There will be a certain flow to the day because of the routines, but you also want to have lots of time where Nicholas can explore and do what he wants to do. I get concerned when there is too much structure or too much focus on

Hey pal. Not much to add except I would prefer 3d in a row over an every other day design. Also I want to say you are being merciful about your mom. I remember when the whole thing started and you were worried about her being able to keep up with Nick and her health. She's in an impossible situation where she *wants* to keep watching him but is unable. There's virtually no way for her to save face and back out of the situation she likely doesn't want out of kwim? Taking her out of the decision-making equation is an act of mercy. You're a good daughter.

she had no intention of suffering alone

Thanks, Betty. :-)

Melanie, I am definitely looking at full days. I think we are looking, also, at two days now versus three. DH can keep him on Monday, my mom can keep him on Tuesday and Wednesday and then daycare Thursday and Friday. I obviously have him on the weekends.

I've narrowed it down now and have two interviews in the next two weeks. All of the suggestions you guys have made will help me tremendously. Thank you!

edited to add: Cindy, I'll give you a call soon.
