Shocking counting calories!

LOL. I figured I would start my "new me" approach with the weight. So I found a pretty good free website for it, fit day dot com. You can track your calories, activity, weight loss etc. Until we get the Wii fit thing, I hear you can do that on there too. Anyway things like charts and graphs help me, it helps to see the little line going down on the chart when I lose a pound.

So the doc gave me meridia, its an rx weight loss pill. Didnt notice anything different yesterday, I ate one piece of pizza instead of 3 so maybe little things like that add up after a while. I just wanted help with a little jump start because I always feel hungry. And I have to go to the doc 1x a month for a weigh in so I thought being accountable will help.

So anyway, I am SHOCKED when I actually tally up all the calories I am eating! I know these things arent "exact" but its close and well, just wanted to share the site with you guys if you are interested in losing weight too. I thought I did "good" yesterday but I actually had, are you ready for this- 2,400 calories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had cereal and coffee and some cheese for breakfast today and it was over 500 calories! Shocking! LOL

So thus begins the journey. I am also going to commit to 15 minutes a day on the treadmill and work my way up. If you havent noticed this about me already, I tend to be gung ho for a few days and then give up. Here's to hoping I can carry through.

Ya want me to play bad cop in a few days and tell you to get your butt back on the treadmill?

2400 is not awful, maybe just more than what you are shooting for. Isn't 1800-2000 what we need just to maintain? When I watch the shows on satellite, the people wanting to lose weight are eating 8,000-10,000 cals/day until they get help.

GL I am rooting for you!

You can do it Kristen -- you have all of us to encourage you. Isn't it amazing how many calories are in things that we think are "good"?
Keep it up, you can do this!!!! Remember if you have a bad meal or day, just get right back on the wagon at the next meal or next day. We all slip up now and again.

Michelle, thanks for my beautiful siggie.

Ain't it a shocker? I kept a food diary for a couple weeks once, for some study I was doing. I was absolutely SHOCKED! at how many calories I was taking in. You can do this Kristen. One bite at a time.

Wow Kimberly, I didnt know you were on it! Seems like it worked pretty darn well! That would be great to be buddies on this!!!

I do notice more energy and I didnt snack as much today AND I cleaned the hall closet and did 4 loads of laundry. LOL

I also walked 20 mins and at 7 pm am only at 1655 calories. I am going to start at 1800 a day. How many calories are you doing or are you doing something different?

I will get a ticker when the first 5 lbs is gone. Not getting one where I have to put my start weight. LOL

Kristen, good for you!!!

It is amazing to see how many calories we put in to ourselves every day! I started following the Biggest Looser weight loss plan about 3 months ago and I have lost 18 lbs so far. It is all about counting calories, and exercising. Their simple way of figuring out how many calories to eat to loose weight is take your current weight and multiply it by 7. So if you weigh 170 lbs, you should eat about 1190 calories per day. It isn't very many calories, so it is pretty important to eat the "good" calories, and get plenty of veggies and tons of water. I've noticed that when I don't drink enough water my weight loss slows down or even stops.
I have become very aware of the calorie amount in different stuff. Fast food is insanely high in calories, a double burger might be 1000-1200 calories!! That is as many calories that I should eat during the WHOLE day, not in one meal!!

Good luck!! I'm looking forward to hear about your progress, because I know that you can do this!!!

LOL! No BUT I had to drive my dad in to the city (2 hours each way) and also drop Audrey off at my MILs so we were out from 9 am to about 5:30. I can do it tonight though. If I can find the energy!!

Good luck Kristen! I know you can do it! It sucks a** but it's worth it. I'll have to check out that website that you posted. I am counting calories and working out as well. The key is to not eat too few and that was my problem the first week. I was only eating around 1150 and that was no good. And you have to count in how much you work out. I am down about 5-6 pounds in 2 weeks. You can do it!!
