i feel like such an idiot sometimes but im not sure what to do. Anna will be 3 mo old sunday shes around 11 lbs. Shes always been on the smaller side MD said shes growing perfectly. Shes never had anything but breast milk although its been a challenge because she will eat for an hour plus and eats at least every 3 horus. With our recent sleep problems almost everyone in my family is on me to give her formula, and put cereal in a bottle theyre convinced shes hungry. Sometimes it hink she might not be getting enough myself when i have to pump i tend to get about an ounce an hour. I dont know how much shes supposed to be eating at this point MD said 3 1/2-4 oz a feeding for

I'm glad you're feeling better about breastfeeding! I just thought I'd throw in my experience. I had nursed my first born for 18 months and was sort of given grief for showing up for bf'ing class for my 2nd child. But, you know.... every child is different! That 2nd class still didn't stop me from calling the LC a couple weeks into nursing my 2nd baby. He was nursing every hour or hour and a half but only for 15-20 minutes - total! I was so worried he wasn't getting enough. My LC calmed my fears when she asked if he was having bowel movements (he was) and that it was a sign that he was getting plenty to eat.

Listen to what the professionals tell you (and your friends here who have BTDT) don't let the family get you down. You're doing great!!

I wish I could come give you a big hug in person.

I struggled with some issues with breastfeeding at the beginning. Madeline ate all of the time, but was always a tiny little thing (usually in the 10% or a little above). She did eat constantly--10-12 times per day for a long time. It was hard and I often wondered if I was doing her a disservice by BFing only, because I felt like I was doing something wrong or there was something wrong with my BM. I had plenty of people giving me advice about formula, but I set my goal to 6 months and was determined to make it there.

I kept going after 6 months and it was easier and easier. She fed less as she got older and at one was down to about 4 feedings per day.

She has been one of the healthiest children that I know. She rarely gets sick, and when she does is able to fight it off quickly. I attritbute it to the continued BFing.

Don't give up! If your ped was concerned about her weight, he/she would tell you. Sounds like your daughter is doing beautifully!! Each baby feeds at a different pace.

Feel free to private message me at any time if you have questions. I went through so much with Madeline (colic, mastitis, plugged ducts, overproduction), I feel like a pro! :)

Keep up the good work! You are doing a great job!

I'm sorry you're struggling! It is normal for a baby Anna's age to eat every 2-3 hours. I don't think it's a sign that she's hungry at all. If your doctor isn't worried I'd tell your family to buzz off and support your attempts at breastfeeding.
