Need advice on fertility tests
Sun, 06-12-2011 - 8:19am

Hi, have any of the women on this forum had the HSG (hysterosalpingogram, x-ray test of the fallopian tubes) and now have healthy kids? I'd appreciate replies from anyone who's had this test and now has healthy kids, but especially women who conceived in their late thirties/early forties and had the test several years ago (around 2003 or earlier). Just looking for encouragement/success stories, or any advice you may have. Thanks!

My HSG was at 28 and showed both tubes blocked up from adhesions. I also found the test to be uncomfortable, but not too bad.

The results of my test led me to IVF and healthy DD born last year.

Hi there I am in my 30s and I had an HSG in '08. I had a painful experience however while my tubes were clear I went on to have a hysteroscopy to repair some scaring from my previous m/c. I am now expecting my first via IVF.

I have a sibling who recently did her HSG and they found blocked tubes and fibroids. She just had a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy done to resolve these issues and her doc has given her a clean bill of health. Her HSG experience was far more pleasant than mine as I did remind her to ask her doc if she could take some pain meds before the procedure (she did). In my case, I had no idea what I was walking into and my doc did not fully explain what I would expect and I ended up screaming in pain during the procedure.

Overall I feel the test is worthwhile and takes away some of the guessing as we tackle our various issues.

I wish you the best with the procedure.
