In lieu of a Question of the Week, I thought I would post this article. What are your thoughts? Do you think the mother is entitled to receive social security benefits for children conceived after the her husbands death?

I agree. Its a tough one. I struggled with it. I kind of feel that SS benefits are there to support the loved ones that are left--it is a benefit

I agree that it seems like taking advantage of the system. Plus it concerns me that legal implications like this might have a negative impact on others being able to get fertility treatments with some sort of legislation on not being able to use frozen sperm, eggs or embryos after a death of one parent.

No not a tough one at all, no fricken way. She made the decision to have these baby AFTER his death. Its one thing if she had gotten pregnant before his death because in planning the kids you were expecting the dad to be there financially and so on and now he won't, but in this case there was no suprise the dad won't be there, you know that going in. Definatly abusing the system IMO

Now if we could only get more people to use common sense - that this is taking advantage of the system. Has anyone seen more on this story? I tried to google it but could even find Stefanie's link anymore. :(
