Bleeding after a bowel movement...

.....is anyone else having this problem??
I've had a small amount of bleeding after a bowel movelment, not every day, but pretty regularly.
Earlier today there was a fair bit of blood when I wiped. I'm going to call the midwife tomorrow if it continues, but was wondering if anyone else had this problem.
I'm 13.5 wks now & thought we were over this worry!!

If you're talking about rectal bleeding, it is very possible that you're experiencing hemorrhoids. A lot of pregnant women experience this. It has something to do with our changing bodies and also progesterone, which contributes to both constipation and hemorrhoids (and constipation also contributes to hemorrhoids, so it's like a double-whammy). Best thing you can do is make sure you're getting a lot of dietary fiber, since that will help relieve constipation. Drink plenty of water as well. If you can keep things moving down there without having to strain, you'll be in much better shape.

I always think it wise to mention such issues to your MW or doc. It will help put your mind at ease, plus she may have other tips for you, and may want to do an exam. You just never know, so best to err on the side of caution.

Hope you feel better soon.

This is not from my bottom...it's deffo from my vagina. I think its when I 'strain' (although I'm certainly not constipated). I dunno. I've called the midwife & she's said that unless it's gushing or I'm having pain, not to stress too much. Still a worry, but I think I'm going to make an appointment to see her this week.

I did some more looking, and it's possible you have what is called a friable cervix. Basically, it just means that your cervix is sensitive and bleeds more easily, and it can be because of pregnancy or an STD. However, if you've had a pap with this pregnancy and didn't test positive for an STD (HPV seems to be the common cause and I'm fairly sure they'd have checked you for that), then it's more likely just a nice side-effect of being pregnant. A bowel movement can bring on the bleeding, because you're pushing and putting pressure on your cervix. Even if you're not necessarily "straining."

Were it me, I'd want to have an appt just to be sure. Bare minimum I'd want to hear baby's heartbeat just to be reassured.

But, it does sound like this isn't an abnormal thing. It's just that not everyone experiences it.

HTH!

I know they say some spotting is normal, but I would definitely make that appt this week and get in to see your midwife/doc.

I hope they figure out what it is and it stops soon
