Let me introduce myself....

Hi there, I'm Emily (40) & live in Norfolk, UK with my hubby & son.
We're expecting #2 EDD 27th August!! I've been married for nearly 19 years & have a son aged 9. We'd tried for years to have a baby experiencing 2 miscarriages before having our son in 2002. Since then we'd tried to have a second child, but again had a couple of miscarriages....at which point we gave up trying & resigned ourselves to the fact we were only meant to have just one child.
Then, lo & behold in late 2010 I unexpectedly fell pregnant....oh the joy (& shock!!) - the family were stunned & thrilled. Sadly I miscarried again at approx 7wks. Right...that's it....we are not going through this any more!!
Ummmmm....23rd Dec 2011....I think I may be pregnant...seriously....better do a test....POSITIVE.....What??!?!? Since then we've been in a state of disbelief, euphoria & sheer shock. It's not been an easy few weeks, I've had some bleeding, 2 scans (showing a good strong heartbeat & very lively baby) & dreadful sickness. BUT, I'm 11 weeks pregnant & at present all is going well. We're trusting the Lord & praying for this precious little life.

Would love to hook up with other over 40's on here.

Don't give up!!! It's always hard to get over a miscarriage, but time does heal. Having a good support network works wonders too. xxx

Congratulations and Welcome! You've certainly had a very rough go of it -- I hope all goes well with this pregnancy.

It's certainly going well now. Feeling really sick every evening & totally exhausted. Totally starting show now too..... my colleagues at work were laughing at me today - bless 'em. I think I'm going to be HUGE!!! I'm not complaining though

Welcome and Congrats! I am amazed at how people just don't "talk" about miscarriage. I kept my pg a secret (mostly) until I got my amnio results. I went to lunch with my friend and her 1.5 year old son and told her. She told me that she'd just had to have a D&C a few weeks before (we'd have been due about a month apart). She's been doing IVF.

She was practical about it "there was something wrong, it's okay". I told her "I miscarried at 6 weeks a week after your son was born. I felt the same way, but it was still really hard." All in all, I lost probably 3 pregnancies in 2010 and then in early 2011 we gave up. In June, we gave away the remaining baby items (hadn't kept much in the first place), except the crib which we gave away in September. In October...whoops.

Good luck on your scan! The first trimester exhaustion is the worst. He he, I had this big baggy blue sweatshirt that I wore to work every day until I decided to tell people. Stopped wearing it a week ago. Now every day..."Marcia...are you???" Yes.

I've always been very open about miscarriage. I feel there is no 'point' to the whole thing unless I can help others as they go through the same things. I know I've found it *so* helpful to know my friends know how I am feeling. Anyone who has not experienced the pain of miscarriage has no idea. End of story.

I've had two miscarriages and while I didn't keep them a secret, I was so over the tired refrain that God had something to do with it. From the same people who say "If God led you to it, God will get you through it" stuff. I'm a Christian, and have very strong beliefs, but I just don't think God lets us get pregnant only to take our babies. My God simply isn't that cruel. God gives me the grace to get through all the trials and tribulations of life, but He doesn't put bad things in my path to build up my strength or endurance. But then maybe just say things like that because they don't know what else to say. I don't know.

Anyhoo. Miscarriage is a pretty devastating thing, for sure. And true, if it's not happened to you, you can empathize, but you cannot fully understand what it does to a person.
