I'm all for it. I don't recall how long I had the kids rear-facing, but I know Will and Jake were in boosters for a REALLY long time. Jake is almost 12 now, and I think I took him out of his Britax booster when he was 10. I made sure he could touch the floorboard of the Jeep with his feet with his back straight, no slouching. It was maddening with friends and family saying that it wasn't necessary, he was so old, etc. But whatever. I tend not to take advice from those not in the know.
Our biggest challenge now is deciding which seat to get. Car seats are generally only good for 5 years, so rather than get the Britax Marathon, Boulevard, or Advocate which go from birth to 70lbs, we may go ahead and start out with the B Safe (30 pounds) but not the Chaperone due to recent recall concerns, or the Roundabout which goes up to 55 pounds. Of all the things we buy for baby, I think I put the most thought and research into the car seat. And, I'm leaning toward the Roundabout just now. Hubby laughs every time I tell him I've found Zoë's carseat. I just cannot make up my mind! I can get it right now from diapers.com for $160. With the free overnight delivery, it's the best deal I've found I think.
Also, we have a new vehicle with this baby, so I need to take a look and see if we have latches. I don't believe we do (ours is a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, the year before Latches were required, maybe?) so I'm curious. They didn't have such things with the first 3 kids (it's been 10 years since we've had to deal with rear-facing car seats), so I'm having to learn a lot of new things. I don't know that I really need the latches, but, would be nice since it seems like they're more secure and usable in center of the vehicle. But again, still looking into it. Not sure if Jeep lets me put a carseat in the center, and that trumps whatever the carseat mfg says.
It's an adventure, to be sure!
We had the roundabout with two of our boys, the Marathon with the other two.
Are you going to use an infant car seat in the beginning or go straight to the Roundabout?
You know, I've thought a lot about it, and given that we've had to buy all new things for her, I am leaning towards not getting an infant seat -- just so expensive. Makes it kind of problematic if we go somewhere not stroller friendly, but I'll have a sling, too, so that will help.
But, I may change my mind, who knows. The stroller is a Chicco and I haven't seen an adapter for a Britax seat, so I'd have to get a Key Fit if I wanted to utilize them together and 1) I don't like the colors they have and 2) I'm partial to Britax seats anyway. And I do love my Chicco. Got it for a steal and it looks brand new.
We'll see if the parents want to get her anything. If they do, then maybe I'll get an infant seat. But, I think we'd manage just fine without it.
I love the girlyness of the Isabella. Libby was our only child we didn't find out the gender ahead of time, so we never had stuff like that straight out of the gate, and face it, back in the 90s they didn't have as much girl-oriented stuff as they do now. So, it's a lot of fun being able to get all the girl things. Her bouncy seat is a pink pattern, too. I expect if I get a pack 'n play it will also be feminine. I'm still trying to decide just how much gear I have to have. LOL!
I'd give you my old one if it wasn't expired (6 years old now)!
