Hi everyone. So glad I found this board. I'm 41 and a mom of 5, ranging from ages 4 to 21. Got a big surprise yesterday when I realized I was kind of late, and had that feeling I've had at least 5 times now. So took a test, and wow, I'm pregnant. Not planning it, even preventing it, and here I am. I'm worried what people will think, what my kids will think, and how I'm going to take care of a sixth kid. It's especially surprising because to get pregnant with my 5th child 5 years ago, I went through a year of infertility treatments and finally had her via IVF!

Crazy, and I'm still in shock, plus worried about all the stats I've been reading about women over 40 and pregnancy.

So hi everyone, and maybe someday soon I'll actually believe I'm pregnant.

Grats! Welcome to the board! Can't wait to hear more about your journey :) we had the shock of our lives 28 weeks ago! :). And don't listen to all the negative stuff you see online. Pregnancy is risky for all ages. Stay healthy and enjoy this pregnancy.

Congrats and welcome! I think shock is a fairly common response for those of us who weren't trying and found ourselves unexpectedly blessed.:)

Best of luck to you as you embark on this journey!

Hello wahmomof5, I just found this forum as I was searching for some place to help me deal with my situation. I too am a mother of 5 ranging from 2.5 to 13.

I had the same response when I got pregnant with my sixth. My Mother in Law went nuts. Wouldn't even talk to me about the pregnancy. She was a major bummer...Kept going on and on to other people about how 2 was too many, and how that baby would never get enough attention. I never argue with my in-laws but I had one day when I'd had enough and yelled - stay out of my uterus :) Embarassing but cathartic!
...But God had other plans for us too. I had my baby at 36.5 weeks totally healthy, but wouldn't you know it, he was born on her 68th birthday! .......Take that MIL. If that wasn't proof he belonged then I don't know what could be. And he is the absolute light of her life. There isn't a more loved, more chrished baby on the planet. When my other 5 kids get home from school they don't say where's mom - the say where's the baby and carry him off. He is an absolute joy as I am SURE your baby will be. I would think of some outrageous way to tell your mom. Send her a cookie bouquet or something :). The more positive you are the more positive they will be. And if they are not then try and deliver on her birthday - told you so!!!!
