Well, that was anticlimactic.

Did they mention dates? 6 weeks is right on the border of starting to see stuff so if it's even a few days in either direction it makes a huge difference. In all my 6 week and earlier u/s I only saw a sac, no yolk sac yet even. Then by the 7-8 week ones all was where I'd have expected it :) It's GREAT you saw little baby & the HB - it's likely it had just started. Will they give you another u/s in a week or two to watch growth? It sounds like a good first appointment to me :)

I also had a large cyst- got up to 6cm with my daughter. The cyst is a good thing as it helps make hormones for baby but it's NOT fun when they grow so large. Mine eventually shrunk by week 12 but if it had gotten any bigger they would have considered removing it so it wouldn't twist.

Don't stress out too much about it- it is early. :) Hang in there chica! :)

It's great you got to see your LO & his/her heartbeat. I'm sorry the whole thing was so anticlimactic for you.

I think a flicker of a heartbeat sounds like a great appt. Hope you get to go in again soon for another look.

I understand what your saying about going in for an early u/s but I am prepared for not being able to see much. I will just be happy to see a sac in the right place. Otherwise I won't be back to have another u/s until around 8 wks so I decided to go with the early appt. I am sure my RE's office will have me come back in again within a few wks. They seem like they follow everyone pretty closely until released to regular ob.

Well I'm very glad you got to see a hb. :) I hope your doc has a better time explaining things.

The tech didn't mention dates, but when she left me to get undressed for the transvaginal scan, I saw that the u/s screen said 6 weeks, 0 days. Your post made me feel a lot better, so thank you. I knew it was early going in there, but the woman said nothing to be in any way reassuring . . . even said "I hope that it's beating, anyway" after she commented about the HB flickering on the side of the gestational sac. So that's mostly why I felt so blah after going to the appointment. She didn't say anything about a followup up u/s. I'll ask my doctor about it when she calls later. All that I have set up so far is a 10 week initial appointment (with a nurse practitioner) and a 12 week one (with my obgyn).

Julia - I think that's a great appointment for 6 weeks! The sac and the flicker are great signs - it's actually pretty darn early to be able to see the HB. I know it sucks when you've waited so long to be PG and you want to see so much, but I really do think that was a great appointment.

I hope things resolve with the cyst and it's not too painful for you!

I remember feeling the same way after my 6 week u/s. There was a lot of anticipation and then the u/s itself was super quick. I also barely saw the heartbeat. I think docs or techs know exactly what to look for so they see it and then they're done. I think they forget that some people may need more reasurrance than others.

This sounds like a great appt! :-) I know the anticipation of that first u/s and then seeing very little can be frustrating but this all sounds so promising. I'd be full of anticipation for the next one, but I am very happy for you!
