20 week appointment, previa update and SCH

I had my 20 week appointment yesterday and had a chance to talk to my OB about my anatomy scan last week. Turns out that the baby is completely healthy and measuring right on target despite all of the bleeding, thank God. It looks like my placenta is well out of the way as well and my OB said that in the past u/s I've had they were just assuming it was the placental position that was causing the bleeding since they couldn't see any other reason. Well, this time they found a 7cm subchorionic hematoma. It's attached to the end of the placenta and actively bleeding, but not under the placenta or causing any detachment at this point. She said that typically you expect SCH to be reabsorbed or bleed out by 20 weeks, but this one has a ways to go. Also, the blood is causing me to have a lot of BH contrax. My cervix is long and closed at this point, but she wants me to stick to the bed rest so as not to increase the bleeding and therefore, increase the amount of BH.

Hey Amanda,

Glad that baby looks good and that your placenta is out of the way.

Hey Amanda,

Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner. I'm really glad to hear the placenta has moved, but sorry to hear you're still on bed rest. Bed rest is the pits. Do you have enough help with your kiddos? I think about you often and keep praying that you and your LO are doing okay!

Thanks Kate. I am sick of the bed rest for sure. Luckily DH is home a lot with his shift work and then the days that he works, my mom and MIL have been taking the kids. He worked a night shift last night and the kids and I stayed at my parents and he works a night shift tonight and the kids are staying at my IL's. Then tomorrow he starts 6 days off so he'll be around. It's been working out really well.

Anyways, I'm glad to see you here in the 2T! IT's such a relief, isn't it?

Amanda i couldnt stress the bed rest factor enough with a SCH i also have one as well and the most part i do moderate things but try not to exceed too much walking i notice when i do alot i bleed more there was one scare last week because i just had blood dripping down legs for no reason and even passed afew clots bit my U/S reviled baby was fine sch was still there not as big and measuring about 2cm
I know bed rest seems hard to do especially if you have a small one but do take it easy.
I know i was never to thirlled about seeing blood (only when i wipe or lil drips in toilet) but i dont make it into a big deal if its dark and old i only worry if i see/seen bright red and thats only been about 2xs more in the first few weeks though.
I am confident this SCH will heal itself and Bleed out or Reabsorb it will just take time and maybe later rather then sooner but i do know how stressful it is.
I am sending you tons of PT&P and dont stress just rest it out. Since you are already about 20w i doubt the SCH will effect the health or growth of the baby since it hasnt this whole time aswell. And it seems baby is doing fine and all is well :)

Thanks Jeannessa. It's hard to see blood every single day, but I have to say I'm getting used to it. I've been on bed rest for over 7 weeks now and I'm pretty used to it. The sch just showed up for the first time two weeks ago at my 19 week u/s. It's 7cm so it's pretty big and actively bleeding. I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it's smaller at my next u/s!

I have had SCH with DD and with this baby. With DD I didn't ever know I had it until the u/s at 14 weeks. It went away on its own, and I never bled.

With this baby, I did have spotting around 20 weeks gestation, and it lasted a week. The SCH resorbed again on its own by the time I had the next u/s.
