I had my first appointment with the midwife today, and it was really fun to see what the differences are. There are no vaginal exams until much later in the pregnancy and the appointment was very chatty and fun. It lasted for two hours! I got a parking ticket! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, and I was given all of my CPM's stats about transfer and complications. She is very competent and friendly. I really feel comfortable with her. There was only one weird thing that happened. I'm measuring big. She said my uterus felt much bigger than where I'm supposed to be, and that if I had not already had an ultrasound, she would have sent me for one ASAP to check dates or for the presence of twins. I know that it sounds totally crazy, but I googled it, and apparently sometimes twins are not seen on an ultrasound and then are seen later. Now I'm nervous and I wish I had an ultrasound today, just to check. I have been feeling really big already, and I had much more morning sickness than I did with my son. But I also feel like I'm totally crazy to even

You will LOVE seeing a midwife. A midwife delivered my DD and it was such an awesome, natural experience. Unfortunately our insurance now won't cover the only midwife in our area, so I am seeing an OB. The difference has been astounding for me. They have been good about my denying almost every test and denying any vaginal exams until at least 37 weeks. I just feel like I have to fight more for what I know it right. With the midwife, there was no fighting.

Hi - I am a lurker here but I wanted to comment on your post to hopefully aleviate a little fear - everyone measures differently!

Now, I am certainly no expert and only have my current pregnancy to go by but here is my quick story.

I measured totally normally with my son, and I KNOW my date of conception very closely. I had hcg levels taken after my miscarriage, so my levels were less than two, and then I got my positive test less than two weeks later. There is really no chance that I am farther along than previously thought. I really hope that there's nothing wrong. Obviously something must be off, because at 10w the baby was 10w3d, and now at 15 weeks my uterus is only two to three centimeters below my belly button. I thought it must just be fat, but my midwife was very sure it was an overly large uterus. I'm going to call her today and freak out about it.
