My doc emailed me today and said all looked great. They were not able to get good ankle shots or face shots so he wants me to go back in a couple weeks for that. Not sure why ankles are important. The tech saw the face but when she was measuring

Jen, I'm glad all looks good with your LO! I'm wondering myself why an ankle measurement is important. Hmmm. Well, at least you'll get another look at your little girl when you have the scan. I don't know much about iron pills except they can give you constipation so maybe ask some questions about that when choosing one. HTH a bit!

Yay for good results! I'm glad doc got back with you so quickly and is arranging for another u/s. They measure everything at the anatomy scan so I'm sure it's just the final thing they need.

Early on in my pg my iron was slightly low...not alarmingly low, but something to "keep watch on". My previous doc had me add iron through my diet as opposed to pills, but this new one just put me on iron pills as of last week. I take the pill twice a day (well, it's supposed to be twice but due to timing it's usually once, and I'll explain why below.) He also prescribed Colace to help with constipation but so far I haven't had any more constipation than before starting the iron. My challenge with taking the pill is that it is best consumed on an empty stomach and I'm almost always eating. I can't take it when I first wake up because that's when I take my bp meds, and I'm certainly not going to wait an hour after that pill and then another hour after the iron for my first meal of the day...my babies would be so mad! So I've had trouble finding another time of day to take the second pill. It's also recommended not to have milk or dairy with the pill as it can disrupt absorption, it's best to drink something like OJ with it.

Did doc write a Rx for the iron or is he expecting you to just buy it otc?

Thanks for the info, My doc said to get the OTC kind. I could not find the mg he recommended, so will take the ones I bought till I find other ones. I'm already constipated and on colace so ope it doesn't get worse. I guess I can be regular again once this baby arrives, lol.

Hi! I highly recomend a natural option. I had very low iron when I was pregnant with Lily-Anne and took pills and my levels didn't budge and I got constipated to boot :p. I used Floridix a liquid iron natural supplement and it worked great! Just take the amount and use OJ as a chaser. Here is some info on it. http://floradixliquidiron.com/ it was also highly recommended by my midwife too. Hope that helps!

What mg did he recommend and what did you find? I think my pills are 325mg.

Jen,
I'm so glad everything is normal. As for going back, at least you get a peek at your little girl again. I'm on a prescription iron pill & I have no idea what the name of it is. It is very constipating, though. Hopefully if you're on colace, the iron pills won't be too bad for you.

Just to chip in on the iron pill thing - I can't take them because of constipation (I have another condition where there's no way I can afford to be constipated) so instead I eat a diet rich in iron - beef, broccoli, spinach, other green leafy veg, dried apricots...that kind of thing.

  1. Probably they want to look at the ankles just to make sure the bones are formed correctly?
