39 weeks and getting antsy

Been a while since I've been on, but wanted to float a question.  I'm 39 weeks and planning on working until my due date (a week from today), so through the end of this week.  After that, my plan next week is to rest and my mom is coming up the day after my EDD to help around the house, play with DS when he's home after daycare, and be here for the birth.  We all assume I'll go late because I was 42 wks +3 with DS.  In theory, this is all good, but I have the day off today and at 11 AM, I'm already antsy and getting broody (baby will never come, I'm too tired to do all that needs to be done around the house, etc.)  I know I need to rest up for labor, but if I sit home for a week or more, I fear I may go crazy! Last time, I went out at 39 weeks, so I was out of work for 3 weeks before I delivered, but DH was home with me (it was summer and he's a teacher).  Also I had 2 weeks of wicked prodromal labor, which made it impossible to work.  So, how have people handled this time period - where you are waiting for baby and in discomfort but not in labor yet? I'm having some pretty intense braxton-hicks (mostly at night before bed) and started using evening primrose oil a couple days ago to speed things up, but it still feels to me like I will not be "on time." I'm thinking of leaving it with my boss that I may pop in for a 1/2 day or so here and there next week (and week after, if no labor yet) just to keep myself sane.  Luckily, I have a job that allows this and would be OK with it as long as I call every day and tell them what I'm doing.  I DO NOT want to go into labor at work - but I'm terrible at just relaxing.  I'm going to talk this all through with my midwives at my appointment this evening, but any words of wisdom from those who have been there??

I was just here a couple of weeks ago.  Since this little girl didn't come as early as my first, I had vacation I had to use or loose.  Honestly, it was a bit frustrating.  I had plenty of things I wanted done and no energy.  I ended up only being able to work on my to do for about 30 minutes and then rest 30 minutes.  I tried planning in a day to pamper me, but that didn't work out.  I ended up watching a lot of the movies and shows that I won't watch with my 2 year old around.  That was an indulgence in itself, I guess.  I took one day and enjoyed a last outting with just my ODD.  It was nice to spend that time with her.  I'm not sure how I would have handled my second scheduled week off...I'd already started to worry about going back to work after vacation.  I didn't want to do that...my preggo brain had become too unpredicable...I was making noobie mistakes.

Glad you at least got a little time to relax, even if it wasn't what you were going for!  Youre LO will be here before you know it and all those little things you wanted to get done won't seem to matter anymore.  REmember, all they need at the beginning is diapers, food, and cuddles Smile

Thanks! That's exactly how I'm feeling.  Yesterday, I had the same issue - much on my "To Do" list and no energy.  I got to cross one thing off and otherwise, I rested and did exactly what you said - watched movies I can't watch with my 2 yo around.  I'm back at work for the rest of this week and then offically on maternity leave, but even at work I'm antsy and not getting much done.  I don't trust myself to do anything important because I'm making mistakes, as you said, due to pregnancy brain and don't want to leave messes for others to clean up.  So, basically, when I'm home, I'm kind of wishing I was at work and when I'm at work, wishing I was home.  I guess overall I'm just wishing for baby! Glad to know I'm not alone in feeling these things.  My midwives are going to check me at my 40 week appt on Monday and offered to strip my membranes depending on whether I'm dilated or not, so if I'm still feeling antsy by then, I may take them up on it.  Last time, that was really what kicked things off for me.  Also, my mom will be with us starting Monday or Tuesday of next week so if I'm still waiting for labor to really start, at least I'll have a distraction.
