Birth Story

Well if you saw my update, I had some issues and developed pre-eclympsia. I went to my midwife on friday morning for a 9:15 appointment and to get the results of the labwork and 24 hr urine. I was told I was over the amount for mild pre-e and also the perinatologist had estimated the baby weight at 9lbs 15oz and that he had to be delivered that day.

I asked if i could be induced, but he was not engaged and in the pelvis and I wasnt dialated so she said she couldnt let me try. Well I cried because I was so scared of surgery and recovery.

My midwife called over to the hospital and I was scheduled for 3pm, but had to arrive at 12:30 for paperwork.

This wasnt even the hospital I had pre-registered at or had the tour and i was so scared of surgery, I just couldnt imagine that this was happening.

THe staff was great, and understanding of my fear. We went back to surgery at 3 and i got the spinal (not pleasant) then the incision was made at 3:20 and he was delivered at 3:28. Since it was a c-section they were able to do my tubal at the same time which was awesome.

Since I had pre-E, I had to be put on a mag sulfate drip for 24 hrs and no food or drink until the next morning after which I was on liquids until 5pm. THe other thing was the breastfeeding. He wouldnt stay up for it at all, so i started pumping. Well lo and behold, he latched on today and i think we will be ok.

They will be discharging us tomorrow afternoon, so just wanted to share my story. here are a couple pix of him. He was 9lb1oz 20 3/4 inches long. His name is Malik Calbert.
