Just had something scary happen - WWYD?

OK ladies, DH and I are both a little freaked out right now. About 30 minutes ago I started having really weird visual disturbances. I was watching TV and looked over my shoulder and could see several glowing dots floating through the air. I actually thought my husband had left the door open and let fireflies in our house. Very freaky. My OB just started me on an anti-depressant yesterday so I'm wondering if that may have caused it. I'm scared because I googled it and it looks like visual disturbances can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. But I'm pretty sure they will think I'm crazy if I call the OB and say I'm seeing stuff. It happened for about 30 seconds and then it was over, and nothing has happened since. What should I do?

Torie might be the best person to answer your question, but I would say, if it were me, I'd call the doctor, just to be on the safe side. I can't imagine that just getting on an antidepressant yesterday would cause side effects so soon.

Your blood pressure might be high. Do you have a blood pressure cuff at home?

I called the OB on call and he seemed completely unconcerned. DH was still worried so I drove to the grocery store where they have a BP machine. I got the highest BP reading I have ever seen for myself. It was 136/83, which may not sound very high but I have low blood pressure to begin with (always between 100/60 and 110/70). So I'm getting worried now but I don't want to page the doctor again. I'm going to bed and will go to the doctor in the morning. My husband says I'm also showing sings of mental confusion (starting sentences and not finishing them, staring off at weird times) and tonight I was standing in the kitchen and just completely lost my balance and fell down. Something is not right. Headed to the OB office in the morning - my regular doctor is on call for the hospital so maybe I'll end up there...

I am not sure what it is but would def go see your OB in the morning to make sure it is nothing serious.

Update: Called the OB's office this morning and told them what was going on. The nurse I talked to was completely unconcerned and said I would be fine waiting until my regular appointment next Friday. When I told her about the blood pressure, she said that the BP machines at the grocery store are not very accurate and I probably just ate some salty food or something. I hung up and was furious. I have a history of preeclampsia with a previous pregnancy, recurrent pregnancy loss, and I just told you my BP jumped 30 points in 2 weeks - doesn't that at least warrant a visit to check my BP on an "accurate" machine?! DH was not happy either so I called back and asked to be worked in with a doctor. Guess what?! The BP machine at Kroger was accurate! Not only that, my BP was even a little higher at 138/91 today. So I am on modified bedrest through the weekend (although I didn't get a really clear idea of what "modified" meant). I go back first thing Monday morning for a BP check and possibly labwork. Then we'll decide what to do from there. Glad I didn't listen to the phone nurse :)

I am so glad you went in! I think modified just means it's not as strict- you can get up to change rooms or go potty or w/e but you shouldn't go on outings or do chores :) Grab the remote & a good book & take some relaxation time (((hugs)))

I HATE when doctors treat you like you're crazy when calling with perfectly legitimate symptoms. They are there to help you- not help even, they are your PAID employees. It does not hurt them to let you come in for a quick check.
