So I had the excitment... I'm having a baby! No, it wasn't planned, but I thought the love of my life would be happy too. I was wrong, he isn't helping and isn't happy at all. It looks like I will be doing this alone. I know it won't be easy, but I know I am not the first to do it. I ran into another mom-to-be at my doctor appointment and we got to talking. She advised me to go to North Carolina social services to see if I qualify for assistance. Well I called to make an appointment, but I am a little lost and wnated to see if anyone had any advice.

I don't know what department to go to, or what helps. I called social services, but they have like 27 departments. I already have health insurance through my work. Although it is an arm and a leg to pay for, I think that disqualifies me for medicaid. My income is low enough to qualify for WIC standards, but I am not sure if WIC is the way to go or if someone can guide me in the right direction.

Any help ir advice you can give me is very helpful.

You can start http://www.ncdhhs.gov/dss/

click on Programs and Services...then there is a link in the bottome of the first section called "Work First Family Assistance"

That might be the best place to start and you can read throgh the site and see if any of it applies to you..best of luck!

When I was pregnant the first time, I was fresh out of college and didn't have a job yet.
