i'm now 34 weeks and I yet to hear of another person who made it to the 3 tri- without their doc knowing this... how can you miss it? all of the ultra sounds show one healthy baby boy, then boom there are two? does any one else understand how this is possible? and I cant think of another name... sigh

Yes, it's rare, but it does happen. I know of a few stories where mothers even made it to birth without knowing it was twins, all ultrasounds only showed one, the heartsbeats on the doppler were so similar that they overlapped each other. The second baby hides perfectly behind the first one; camera shy baby. Our Baby B was camera shy until 10 weeks. We had ultrasounds at 6w1d, 6w2d, and 6w3d..my last two pregnancies ended in miscarriage. It wasn't until the third ultrasound that we even saw one baby. We had another at 8w4d, and at 10w4d, we saw a second baby with a strong heartbeat. It wasn't a surprise as far along as you are, but it does happen.

I became high risk at that point, because they were mono/mono twins. I went in at 11w5d for my FTS screening, and we found that Baby B no longer had a heartbeat.

I am no longer a multiples mom.

I am 34 weeks and I am convinced I am having twins. I have had two ultrasounds earlier on that only showed one but the tech was in a hurry at the later one because I had been late. I am measuring right for how far along they say I am but I don't think they have my due date right. I donated my eggs last September(so I was taking fertility drugs) and then I got pregnant a couple weeks later. Did you have ultrasounds where they only saw one. HAve you had regular prenatal care. I think it is definitely something that happens but is rare.

All of my ultra sounds had only one baby visible. only the ultra sound at 32 weeks showed 2 babies.

I find this so fascinating...

...so for the moms who were surprised in the 3T, were these 2 or 3D ultrasounds? Is the same thing possible with the 3D? I'd guess not, but I wouldn't have thought even 2D wouldn't give some inkling.

these were the simple 2D ultrasounds, i have not done the 3D's. i really have no idea how to explain how this was over looked, even my doctors have no idea how my second son continues to hide. at least once hes born he cant hide any longer :)

Wow! What a surprise! I am a twin and my Mom didn't know until she delivered at 33 weeks. I was born then they said, hold on there is another baby in there. They never heard the second heartbeat. My Mom even said she thought she heard a second heartbeat but the doctor told her it was hers! Hahaha I wish you the best of luck with everything!
