Emily and Carolynn's story

My laundry is finally caught up and I am finally getting around to posting our story. Yay!
I woke up a little after midnight on Monday May 7 (I was 37 weeks, 5 days) to use the potty and my water broke. We called the neighbor to come stay with the boys until my sister could get there and went to the hospital. It was about 1:00 by the time they got me in the room and hooked up to an IV. (I had to have antibiotics due to being GBS+). I was having fairly sporadic contractions, but I was slowly dialating. They gave me an epideral at around 2:00, wich was very uncomfortable to get, but I stopped feeling any contractions. I was afraid that things had stopped progressing, but at 3:30 they told me I was fully dialated and it was time to move me to the OR. My doctor arrived a few minutes later with her husband (another OBGYN) and the doctor on call that night also came in. Emily Datha was delivered with a couple of pushes at 4:02 am. She weighed 6lb and 9oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long. She was screaming her head off. Carolynn Beverly was delivered breach at 4:07. My doctor said those were the longest five minutes of her life because she didn't think she was going to be able to keep a hold of those little feet and pull her out. She was grabbing her through her sack of water and she kept pulling her feet away. She finally did get a hold of her though, and she was out with a few pushes. She weighed 6lb 14oz and was 19 inches long. They took me back to the other room to recover and brought the girls in shortly after. I was able to nurse them both at the same time. They were champion nursers from the very start. They nursed so often those first couple of days that my milk started to come in by the second day. We all got to come home the morning of the third day. I have had to have their billiruben levels monitored because they are a little high, but so far they haven't had to be under lights or anything. I can't believe it has been a week and a half allready. It is so fun to have them finally here. Good luck to everyone on your special deliveries!
